let it be

“Pres-TOOON! Preston Weston!!”

“I’m right down here ma. I must — I must have fell out of the funhouse somehow, heh. Cool, though.”

“I can’t see you Preston. Lots – of – wind. And you’re *right here*?”

“Yeah, ma. I’m standing kind of right below you. Heh, like I said. No, hum, wind where I’m at.”

“I’m going to walk a little further and try to find solid ground again. Can you hear me?!”

“Yeah, like I said. Right below you.”

“Alright! I’m walking!”

“Cool, cool.”

“Alright Preston Weston! I’m going to try to teleport you up to my location! When you see the invite just accept and hopefully — can you hear me!?” The wind was behind her now but still quite noticeable.

“What!?”

“Walk to-ward my voice!”

—–

“I see you again up there, ma. Can you hear *me*, heh!?”

“Yes! So — look for the invite!”

“Okay, ma!” Preston Weston sees the invite but accidentally closes the dialog box while hovering over it. “Um, ma?!”

“Yes, Preston Weston!”

“Can you send me another invite!? I kind of fumbled that one, heh!”

Your Mama sighs, then tries again. That useless, fuzzy brained kid, she thinks. Never paying attention to what he’s doing. How many coats and jackets has he lost now? She’s lost count. And the umbrellas!

“Ta daa.”

“Thank God. *Don’t* wander off again. Stay by my side until we reach the end of this thing. Whenever that is.” 100 lindens, she thinks. Well, it was something to kill a Saturday afternoon with Boy Wonder.

He turns after announcing himself. “Neat-o. A periscope. Is this a submarine?” He tries to grab onto the handles but finds he can’t. “Aw Jeez.” But then he sees the ship through the viewer anyway. “Look ma, a sailing vessel. Full of gold bullion and maidens with big apples most likely, heh.”

“Preston, just stop it with the apples. I don’t want to hear about the apples again. What did we talk about?”

“That I wasn’t suppose to talk about women’s apples?”

“That’s right.”

“Like Mrs. Appletree’s apples,” he pronounces.

“*Especially* Mrs. Appletree’s, pheh.” She shakes her head for about the hundredth time in the funhouse. “Why don’t you focus your attention on her daughter Felicia, instead? She’s a little older than you, but she’s in most of your classes.” I can’t take away from Preston Weston that he’s smart, Your Mama thinks. If only his grades would keep up with his imagination. And Felicia Appletree is top of her class — might be a good influence.

“Alright Preston. It’s time to figure out a way to get out of this room. You’ve done it before.”

“We’ve done it *everytime* before. We had to go through all the other rooms to get to *this* room. Uh, ah, I’m kind of tired, ma, heh. Can’t we just go home?”

“No, “persists Your Mama, set in her ways. “We paid 100 lindens apiece for this game and we’re going to see it through to The End.”

“Jeez ma,” Preston Weston exclaims again. He starts looking around. “Well, heh, it looks like this is another easy one. Not like the one with the ants, pheh.”

the one with the ants

“I didn’t like that one either,” admits Your Mama.

“Yeah, heh. Looks like you just go up this ladder, ma.”

“Well? Go ahead.”

“I might fall into the Between World and be lost forever if I’m wrong.”

“You’re not wrong. I think this is an easy one too.”

“Not like the ants.” He eyes the ladder again. For some reason, he doesn’t want to go up it. He senses…

“Oh for Pete’s sake.” Your Mama brushes aside stalled Preston Weston and ascends…

—–

“Preston! Pres-TOON!” But Your Mama’s son couldn’t hear her now. She was truly sealed off. Because this was the real submarine room. The ham submarine sandwich room. The Room.

END OF “COLLAGESITY 2019 MIDDLE”!

options 02

“Sinkology is a relatively new development on Maebaleia.”

“Satori,” Option 01 corrected, trying to read his own manuscript.

“Yeah, what I said. But it started on Jeogeot and spread here. But first it skipped Maebaleia…”

“Satori.”

“Yeahhh, and went to Corsica instead. Chasm Deep and also Egghill Sink, of course.”

“Of course.”

“That’s where it picked up resonance from Earth.”

Option 01 stopped trying to read and lifted his head. “Your son Preston Weston is very interested in Earth, and getting rid of it.”

Option 02 met his eyes. “*Your* son.”

—–

“Nothing but vampire drinks here. But…

… another door.”

“Each supposedly duplicate castle has its advantages and disadvantages compared to the other,” returns Option 02. “My guess is that they cancel each other out and are unimportant to the overall story here.”

Option 01 paused, again wishing he had a drink. “Like us?” he then asked.

—–

“Ma, I’m home!”

“Ma?”

—–

“Do you think I’m pretty, Preston Weston?”

“Um, *sure* ma. Not as pretty as Mrs. Appletree, my geography teacher. But, yeah, pretty still. In a ma kind of way, heh.”

“Your *father* thinks I’m too fat.”

“W-what?”

“Yes. Too fat.”

“Is, er, that why we’re not *eating*?” Preston Weston’s stomach rumbles again involuntarily. No food on the table, nothing being prepared. This was not the usual!

“He picks you up, he drops you off. God knows where he is before, between, and after.”

“Jeez ma. This is kind of *sad.* *You’re* sad. Do you want me to tell you one of my stories to cheer you up? I have a new one… listen, heh, South America is being invaded by giant ants…”

“*No*, Preston,” She looks at him directly now. “But… thanks. That’s very nice of you to offer.”

“Jeez ma,” Preston repeats more seriously, seeing the tears in her eyes.

—–

“Drive over to the east coast now, Option 02?”

“Sure.”

options 01

“Ready Option 02?”

“Ready Option 01.”

—–

—–

“A difference.”

“Different options.”

“Yes.”

—–

“I got stuck (!!).

“So did I (!).

“They’re very different.”

“They are.”

Option 2

“Gee, dad. You’re driving especially fast today. Um…”

“You just hold onto that lime, son. That’s an important part of your school presentation today.”

“I know,” he recites indifferently. “World of Lemon; Lime World. Contrast between the two. Blah blah blah, pheh.”

“Hold on, son. Another curve. Wheeeee!”

“Gosh dad, your cap blew off on that one. And your hair’s all poofed up and spiky too.”👍

“Never mind that, son.” SCREEEEEEECH. “We’re here. “Rooster Springs Backwoods Middle School. Where you’re in the middle…”

“I know, I know,” Preston recites mechanically again in the pause. “… which is (and his dad joins in here) unfortunately in the way.”

Preston gets out, peers cautiously at the school front door for potential allies and foes. “See you soon, kid.” Then he was gone in a whirlwind of burnt rubber and skid marks.

Potential new enemy Bruce Bulkhead. Probably is.

real world

“The jellyfish has eaten the lion.”

“You need to STOP it, Preston.”

He stirred his spoon randomly in his bowl. “Mama. Can I go out? I know it’s raining…”

“Preston. You can go out when it stops raining. This afternoon sometime. Now eat your cereal. I have to go to the women’s club today and you have to look after your little sister Robin.”

“Awwww.”

“No ‘awww’s, young man. Suck it up and eat the cereal.”

Cereal, he suddenly thought. Circles! Cereal circles. Two of them. But where? How? The jellyfish ate the lion.

“Spongebob Squarepants” was playing on the tv. Robin’s favorite show. Baby Jane was too little to have a favorite show. But of course Jane would go with mama. Too small for him to take care of. But Robin — unfortunately — was just big enough now. He had a new responsibility and he didn’t like it.

But the dreams. He could always withdraw into the dreams when things get boring here. Robin is small — *tiny*. She’s riding on the edge of a car with a madman at the helm, spinning and turning and spinning and turning. She wears a big R on her blouse. She’s happy, carefree. ‘Wheeeee!’ But then there’s the giant baby reaching into the tv, grabbing her off the car’s edge like King Kong to Fae Ray. Did I get those names right? He’d watched that movie last year. Empire State Building. He wants to go visit now. See where the monkey hung off the side of the building. Visit the top where he made his final stand against the fleet of attacking airplanes. *He* is King Kong. He’s being attacked from all sides, “wrrr! wrrr! wrrRR!!”

“Pres-TONN!!!”

Preston

“Hold on Small Robin. We’re going around some curves now.”

“Wheeeeee…”

“*No* Big Baby Jane. Don’t reach into the tv for the people; I told you. Do you want another hit from my zapper gun? I can *doo* that.”

“Ka-BLAM!”

“WH-AA-AAAAAAAA!!”

“Pres-TONN!!!”

pyramids

Agents 25 and 41. Let the games begin, I suppose.

Agent 52 and Messed Up, who manifests at various points in the maze and offers tips for money. “The far side wall is transparent. That’ll be 50 lindens.”

Agents 49, 62, and 20. Rare conjunction of 3; all are trapped and stymied at the moment.

Agents 96 and 69.

Agents 24 and 55, just before the latter’s head was sliced off and his eyes were pecked out. What a thing to have to witness!

End of the road for Agent 29?

Hardly.

(to be continued?)
