College update 02

Well, Karoz brainstormed for hours while Patty guarded the door to House Orange. “They’re going to have to know sooner than later what this college is all about,” she urges. “They’re buying books and food and drink and taking train rides, but they don’t understand the point.” Karoz bursts through the phantom, orange door. “Eureka, we’ll go Potter on them. We’ll invent our own sport like Quidditch. And we’ll divide the college itself into four sub-colleges and have them play *each other*. Brilliant — yeah?” He knew they couldn’t just play Quidditch itself — had to be something new. Something related to TILE, he then realized in another moment of inspiration. “Red, green, yellow, blue, like the Fighting Marbles. Marbles Fall… Marble Falls. Dogpatch. Billy Ray Cyrus.” He was word associating. Patty Pepper Mint just stood there, arms folded. “Curriculum?!” she thought so loudly that he actually heard it. But Karoz had backed into the truth. The college had to be based on TILE and a related game or games. Pupils had to “get marbled”.

That better be it for tonight!

—–

One more thing. Story Room wrote a quick reply to this post, saying that it’s obvious they should head 3 of the 4 sub-colleges, and Karoz the 4th. It was all heading in this direction all along. Red, blue, yellow. They even suggested some names for the 4 subs: Moss, Rope, Tongue, and Chalk. “I’ll take Rope,” Steptoe said. “Tongue for me,” the talkative Oskar Robert’s Son offered. “Left with Chalk, I suppose,” the shy Chuck or Charlie chipped in. “And of course you’re Moss,” they said in basic unison to Karoz. Karoz woke up.

Falmouth College update.

College president elect Karoz Blogger was disappointed to learn that there is a real life Falmouth College of sorts in Cornwall County, England, and an arts college at that. He’ll make a final decision on the name soon, he promises. But it has to be Falmouth College still, doesn’t it? Maybe he could just call it Fal Mouth College. Still like the sports nickname of the Cussers. But who will they play? Well, they can play Parktown, they can play Chilbo. Michael Bolton is the new head coach over there, I’ve heard. He ordered new playbooks from a local company but they sent leather bound copies of Phil Donahue transcripts from the 1990’s instead. No, wait, Billy Ray Cyrus is the new Chilbo coach; Michael is the assistant coach. Well, if Karoz wants to participate in this football season he better hurry up and start the college and get his team together. Another possible opponent is the Billville No Neckers.

But what about the curriculum development? What will his college *teach* the young, virtual kids of today’s generation? “Moss” is all he has now. Football and Moss. “Com’on,” urges Patty Pepper Mint from beyond the door. Because Karoz has locked himself into his small office in House Orange to plan for the future. “I can’t think with all the trains going by and kids ordering their food and drinks and books,” he complains. Patty Pepper Mint comes from a large family of complainers over in the green Nari hills. Billy Ray Cyrus is her 1st Cousin. Some say they were even married at one time and had several children. She doesn’t like to talk about those days, but, on the other hand, Patty is obviously excited about the prospect of playing Chilbo. Karoz reinforces that she check in on him each and every hour, 24 hours a day. Home life and playing with cousins can wait, he jokes. She doesn’t laugh. Karoz knows the secret. Michael Bolton is not [just] another 1st cousin but the husband of Billy Ray. Michael Bolton stole his heart away from her. She’s *jealous*. Spongebob Squarepants and husband Patrick Star plan to attend all the Fal Mouth College home games (*there* — made a decision on the name!).

Another opponent: Rooster Springs Backwoods Institute (where you’re in the middle, which unfortunately is in the way).

Karoz needs to identify a league. He contacts B.R. Cyrus. Michael Bolton puts down a Donahue script and answers the phone. They identify together some common opponents. “Parktown, yeah,” Bolton spouts. “I hate Parktown and their sewers and dirigibles, so hoiti toitti. They’re all addicted to sex and gambling over there. Do they have a high school?” Karoz was shocked. He didn’t realize Chilbo was a *high school* team. There was no college in Chilbo, nor in Parktown. Yes, he found out Parktown has a high school. And Nari, for that matter: the old Crow’s Foot building serves as a place for 6 to 8 young adults to gather together each fall and spring for learning lessons. Patty Pepper Mint, of course, knows all of them. They’re immediate family each and every one. “Well, we cannot have a football team without other colleges to play. Can we play high schools?” “Up to you,” Patty returns. “There’s *got* to be other colleges in the area. How about the Sheldonopolis Fighting Sheldons?” “Funny,” Patty answers. “But, yes, we can play them.” “Maybe I should just scrap the football idea this year and focus on the curriculum and getting the school started.” Patty said the obvious. “You think?”

Update 02

Karoz really really wanted to include the old Temple of TILE in his developing college grounds… but it was simply too many prims to work with. He settled for a small cathedral where House Greenup originally sat. The Table House is gone for now — basically it was traded for this cathedral.

Snapshot2001_003
Temple of TILE — just didn’t quite fit.

Snapshot2001_013
New, small cathedral, probably a “TILE Cathedral” per Karoz’s current leanings.

Snapshot2001_017
Developing Falmouth College grounds. And quite a few prims to play around with, still (!).

The variant band Story Room has graciously donated a pipe organ for the cathedral. Karoz is in some serious talks with this group concerning the college. This may just be step 1 of their involvement.

“Yes, Karoz has gone to virtual Stonethwaite to speak directly with Story Room. They jokingly call him the “fourth” [member of the band]. Take off his clothes, and he’s serious green. His computer table will exist on an emerald green carpet of grass in the Admin Building, mimicking The Emerald of Whitehead Crossing. Story Room is aware of their variant nature. They know The Beetles (who apparently aren’t as conscious of their variant aspect). Story Room will preside over a Table[ in Falmouth College], yes. They will even be teachers there. Karoz himself will lecture on TILE. Chuck Brown is the yeller feller of Story. The others call him Chuck. The red one is Oscar. Blue guy is Steptoe Butte, with an alt named Barely Singwright. Is that right?”

“So Karoz just walked into one of the collages and went to Stonethwaite to speak with Story Room?”

Hucka D.:

“That’s right. It was the one where Spider first exited. Oh wait, that’s the wrong college. He could use any of the collages, but he chose the one, actually, that Master Shake went into, making another hole. Then Space Ghost, Baker Bloch’s father, went into the diner college with buds Karoz… sorry again — *Zorak*, and Moltar. Story Room has agreed to play a benefit concert to raise money for the college. They’ll have it just behind the new Administration Building, inside the train track. That will be the future home, then, for the Falmouth Cussers. Nickname still in development. Perhaps something like the Cussing Tigers or Fucking Tigers. Falmouth College Motherfuckers. Or just Mofos for short.”

Karoz walked into the collage and past the backyard with the “E” in it. He went by the white within the dark, or the white star accompanied by a black hole at one end of the Devizes railroad tunnel running under the castle there. He knows of the Falmouth Castle-Devizes Castle link. He stopped to ask John Elway where he could find Story Room. 2 of the 4 Beetles crossed the road just in front. A martin bird peered around the house he was passing, as if unable to enter Stonethwaite proper. The martin bird, twinned by George Martin on the other side of town, controls the white track that enables Stonethwaite to become virtual (the GoogleEarth streetview track). It is a Martin Track. No. 9. He finds Story Room dining in the Stonethwaite End and Restaurant, currently owned and run by Oscar The Red. As Karoz walks up on them, they are discussing the nature of the 4th, and what to do about him. Karoz always had excellent timing. “Can we help you?” Oscar offered as Karoz continued to stand in front of them. “Do you know who I am?” he asked. “Winne the Pooh?” said Steptoe Butte who may be the same as Barely Singwright. “I am not. I’m the new president of Falmouth College, formed to study the complex baker b. collage series of the same name. Falmouth College studies or will study Falmouth collages. We are inside a Falmouth collage now. Stonethwaite is depicted front to back, as it were, in the heart of the series. I simply walked into one of those collages and found you here.” Story Room began to stare at each other in square, triangle, and circle ways. More correctly, sphere, tetrahedron, and cube represented their giant eyes. They had no pupils yet could see. “Would you like to have pupils?” Karoz then asked. “We don’t need them,” they said in staggered unison, looking around at each other. “No, I’m mean students. Would you like to come teach at the fledgling college? Perhaps only a class here or there. You would teach musical composition and invention. And multimedia.” “We run the inns here in Stonethwaite,” came the reply. Steptoe dared to down a cheese wafer. “You are not really here, however,” Karoz said back to them. “Yes we are.” “No,” Karoz said again. Then they recognized who he could be: the sought for Fourth. “You ever studied alchemy?” asked Steptoe. “I studied TILE at Crabwoo University in Second Life before the coming of the Lindens. And I did some student teaching there. And then I became a TILE priest and a jeweler. We teach the 4orrin1 doctrine.” “What’s that?” asked Oscar. Chuck had been strangely quiet all this time.

What the plans are… *now* (!)

Last check, I’m going to keep Collagesity into Sep and perhaps into Oct, Nov and maybe even beyond. I’ve reconfigured the town’s space so that it extends more in a southerly direction. I basically eliminated Westside. Confluence Place is already gone, and so is Gallery BOB. I believe the Sadler collages within might just be moved to the X Spot Gallery. In another version of the latter gallery, I already had them in place in one of the wings (the present version has 2 wings; originally it had 4). I still plan to keep searching for collage artists for the galleries, however… not giving that up. But the focus now will be the Falmouth *College* of the town, its official home.

And I’m not totally sure but I may be able to keep the town train (!) Also eliminated in that direction, however, are the Newton and Jasper statues, a bunch of neat vegetation in the eastern part of the track’s inner space, and also the Wall of Eyes. More might develop of the current 1 prim building just to the s. of Fal Mouth Moon — maybe college related? I’m simply going to abandon the rest of the land I own; set it up as a protective border. A shame to lose the money I could make off the land sale but I think it’s the wise decision, and, for one, the only way I can keep the train most likely.

This is basically how the town will look…

Falmouth College (Fal Mouth Collage?)

“Fal Mouth Moon gallery is going to become Fal Mouth Collage College. Isn’t that exciting Hucka Doobie? Hucka D.?”

—–

Hucka D. isn’t up yet. Give him until sunset. 🙂 But I believe what I wrote above is going to happen. I also believe this may be the end of Collagesity, once more, since I already have the college set up in Philudoria, free of charge. But I’m not certain. We’ll be going on vacation starting Friday, and when I come back I’ll have to make a decision quickly so I can start selling off the land. The basic idea is that the Falmouth collages are complex enough that you can create a whole college to study them. A small college, mind you, not a big one. And the course options are obviously going to be limited since we’ll just be studying the collages themselves. I haven’t decided if it will be called Falmouth College or Fal Mouth College. But people will mistakenly call it Collage instead of College. Trying to inject needed (additional) humor into this blog, see. I know Whitehead Crossing, the prime Frank Park location for myth-telling presently and probably into the future as well, will be an important element. And Frank and Herman Parks along with it.

The college will be set up virtually in Philudoria probably, but also, at the same time, here on this perch above Whitehead Stream, as depicted in a Falmouth college collage. See how that doesn’t stop being funny?

collage68base03

In this collage, the rock perched atop the cliff becomes the same as the castle. The idea of a Falmouth college here has been aligning from several directions for a while. First, there’s the “fact” that a castle is or was situated on this cliff, owned by a man (and woman?) named Dundee — Castle Dundee, then. The Fal Mouth Moon gallery structure is also called a “castle” by its creator, Moard Ling. So the castle was turned into a gallery which is being turned into a college. Additional buildings will surround it. A new virtual village named after the college might arise — simply Falmouth College, then.

But what of the Power Tower Gowlery I hear you asking, and the Gilatona-Lis collage series? Isn’t that almost as important as Falmouth? Well, that’s a good question to be pondering, reader, and thanks for bringing it to my attention. I wish Hucka D. was here to confer with.

—–

My feeling is that the Falmouth College simply *must* be inserted into Whitehead Crossing, on that perch or cliff (Cliffs of Dundee). Castle Dundee, yes, will be converted into a gallery that will become the college, with added buildings. My reasoning here is that the last 1/4th or so of the Falmouth series is largely about Whitehead Crossing, starting with Falmouth 44 and ending with Falmouth 61. Whitehead Crossing will be more than happy to absorb the idea.

“They’ll have to study Frank and Herman Parks themselves. They’ll have to ponder TILE. They’ll have to investigate the original “Frank & Herman Einstein!” document from 2003. They’ll have to make c’s in all these classes to gain a shiny blue star in the end. And after graduation? We’ll, they’ll be certified collagists themselves (!) They’ll go into the virtual Stonethwaite, hike up Greenup Gill covered so well early on through the Greenup series from way back in 2004. That’s when I turned into an orange, baker b. You remained an apple.”
