Spread’n Out

I’ve moved around some of my art to new locations in Second Life. Here they are. First up is a small gallery in the Mysten sim exhibiting my newest set of collages. I call it simply The Red Umbrella, borrowing the name and logo from the larger gallery of that name in Collagesity, Minoa.

Snapshot2021_001

Snapshot2021_006

Then I’ve set up a mirror gallery for the Art 10×10 collages in a location I won’t specify, but is close to the Kerchal Forest.

Snapshot2023_001

Am I preparing for the end of my existence in Minoa? Could be.

Carrcasses 02

Snapshot1101_002

[joined in progress]

Carr.:

… good to have that off your shoulders. Or potentially. How’s the wife?

bb:

She’s fine. I’ll work on the woods.

Carr.:

Do that. Kerchal’s been ringing me up each and every hour inquiring about a move.

bb:

Well, that’s not going to happen Carrcassonnee. Not if I can help it.

——-

Earlier that day, Baker Bloch revisited the sim sized Kerchal forest on Sansara, the oldest Second Life continent. He was drawn to the number of trees. “Maybe Kerchal *is* a superior woods to Rubi,” he thought, countering his last judgment.

Snapshot1101_003

He was surprised to find the 3 “Uranus” cubes still within, since he thought he remembered owner Torley Linden saying these were deleted several years back. And right after Carrcassonnee compared herself to Uranus in the present.

Snapshot1101_004

Back to the present, then:

—–

Carr.:

That’s where the curse started for poor white and pink Baker Blinker. The noise.

bb:

And where it ended, as I recall. 12 Oz Mouse. Carrcass-1. You.

Snapshot1094_003

—–

Abominable, 2

I also wanted to talk about Burning Life. My theory, Hucka D., is that Burning Life is represented by Jay Cutler [likewise standing in for John Elway — see below], and the burning car in his hand is the central sun or Burning Man of that event. Now at his *feet* we have the marble that represents the planet Uranus, the most distant planet depicted on the roller coaster [starting with Mercury, which is the same as the roller coaster cart directly below the burning car/sun]. So my new theory is that Uranus is found in the Kerchal forest. Just like the Uranus planet you can *just* make it out on the map if you know where to look. And this Uranus is 3 cubes, 1 being transluscent. They’re set at full glow. *Barely* make it out, [just like Uranus is barely discernable to the naked eye, if you know where to look.]

http://www.maineskies.org/uranus.html

Hucka D.:

You think this is the opposite of Burning Life, then. Brightest verses the very opposite, so dim it lies on the very edge of perception. This is a contrast of opposites.

bb:

That’s right.

Hucka D.:

Hand high and feet low. Hilo.

—–

Carr.:

I cannot be just one forest, sorry. Kerch calls me all the time. He proposed last week, even though I was already married. He forgot he was also wedded to Alice. They’ve been touching each other for a long time. Since near the beginning.

bb:

Kerch or Kerchal is mad.

Carr.:

Yes. Looney bin mad. Kerch was Shakenstein. The real one, and not that fake propped up over there [Carr. points to Master Shake in the north cove of the temple].

bb:

Now the carrcasses are going to be explose, perhaps. The positive ones. The negative ones will remain hidden for a while, like Uranus and beyond.

Carr.:

That is correct my friend. Excitement in synch land. Sunklands. That’s where you end Your Second Lyfe.

bb:

Thank you.

Carr.:

Shakenstein will return.

Sachie finds a new virtual home.

http://sachiebade.wordpress.com/category/opensim/

Henry Island and Henry Island Lighthouse

Kind of strange thing here. Henry Island is mentioned in the *very first* post of my Baker Blinker Blog, which is also my first blog. It’s the original post on Second Life, where I consider an imaginary island based on the real Henry Island off the coast of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia.

Baker’s Island & Lighthouse

Both have red and white lighthouses of sorts. How cool is that?! Just later, Sachie built a larger, proper lighthouse on a more distant island in her virtual archipelago.

henry-island

xoverhead

Wikipedia article on Nova Scotia’s Henry Island:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Island_%28Nova_Scotia%29

Who is Sachie to me? I discovered her former presence in a virtual sinkhole callled Egg Hill about 4 years back now. Subsequently in real time we were then entangled in the Corsica Incident that took place inside the same sinkhole. The incident is partly embodied in the Trivia Ratsuit tale.

The sinkhole’s sync laden story is here.

http://bakerblinker.wordpress.com/category/corsica-continent/egg-hill-sink-orions-vale/

Some more related links and quotes:

Lighthouse Island : Our Family Escape is a well written description Baker’s purchase and renovation of Henry Island, Nova Scotia. He was able to realize his dream of owning a lighthouse, and in this book he shares that dream with the reader. Rather than turning it into a posh rich man’s retreat, he renovated it in keeping with the history and area. He has created a wonderful place to relax and “get away from it all” for his family. I highly recommend it for those who love the sea and lighthouses.

Opensim Worlds

What I’m loving though about Opensim, beyond all the cool technology that its awesome developers are making, is that it is giving me that feeling I had when I first came into SL. Things a little rough around the edges (though the server works great), the sense of being on a frontier, the DIYness of it all.

There were three moments in the whole process that were absolutely thrilling, comparable even to the moment I left Help Island so many years back and appeared on the main grid!

1. When I logged to my instance and new lands spread out before me.
2. When I made my first hypergrid jump to someone else’s world.
3. When I turned it all off then back on again and it worked!

This Is Not The 9th

So Baker’s Island is the Pluto of this particular system. Is it the actual Baker’s Island off the coast of Cape Breton, or at least an exact replica? I had set up a faux Baker’s Island using a extensively wooded, flat sim in the southwestern part of the Sansara continent. Did I need to find a way to this perhaps much more real Baker’s Island? I had some pondering to do.

newly born Baker Bloch (actual p in the pod) completes sinister Mr. Low’s required task

Resting Place

After Baker had just decided to hunker down for the night in the spooky ruins to await his master, he turned around in his mind the possible reasons for Mr. Low’s request to build the cemetery. Do the 3 stones represent fallen comrades, perhaps those that landed on the SL planet with Mr. Low that he scathingly mentioned once before? And also Baker had the strong suspicion that Mr. Low himself was not really corporeal within SL; he too was a ghost here. Baker jokingly pictured to himself Mr. Low requesting his own headstone, the 4th, for his second task. Then a series of thoughts rapidly culminated in the obvious: the a priori presence; the color; the lining up with the other 3 tombstones; the position higher than the rest. Mr. Low was lowest no longer.

Unlike the wooden grave marker for Pinkins and Jenk-
ins, some person had made much more effort to cut and carve a
grave stone for John Low. Perhaps some members of the fishing
crew, a father or a brother, had returned to Massachusetts to com-
mission a carved gravestone. Another, more likely possibility,
was that the gravestone was carved from sandstone on nearby
Port Hood Island. The French quarried stone on Port Hood Is-
land and it would have been much easier to carve a stone on the
spot, provided one had the necessary skills and tools.
11
The sand
stone, referred to as “free” sand stone was known for being re-
sistant to weathering. John Low may have been a captain of a
fishing schooner or his father, his brother or a friend wanted to re-
member him with a cared gravestone. John Low lies buried on
Henry Island, a distant shore from Massachusetts.

“It’s an actor and a character in one again, just like in Kansas with Bracket’s Psychogumma’s Marion and Leigh.”

Edwardston R.:

I’m interested!

Hucka D.:

We’re in Rubi again, Edwardston R. Baker b. has decided we all can stay. Turns out the Rubi Forest is alive and sentient and shut. Could have told him that to save the worry and time.

Edwardston R.:

Fantastic! I sensed that too.

Hucka D.:

Lucas numbers and the golden mean are imbedded. Do you have your man data? Are you a Truemann?

Edwardston R.:

Yes!

Hucka D.:

The Klinger man/woman taps you on the shoulder, making you turn. Are you turning?

Final Virtual Home?

Perhaps inspired by the Rubi Forest research today, I have begun thinking that Rubi might be my final stop in Second Life. What better place could I find to watch the terminal days of the mainland grid? How long will mainland last?

Snapshot1529_002

Edward’s Stream will mark the new, lower border of the trimmed down burg. Will it still be called VWX Town? A question to ponder. I’ll gear my tier down to the next level, which I still find quite managable, at least in relation to this most perfect of virtual spots. Fal Mouth Moon will also remain and stay the home of the Gilatona-Lis collages, my last offerings in that medium. More might be added in the coming year, and there’s some room for growth in the building, as opposed to the Power Tower Gowlery. The attached rocket launcher will also stay.

Snapshot1529_005

Toxic Art Gallery with its “Art 10×10” may move back to Philudoria. All of the eastern part of town will be gone. The Confluence Place will not stick around. The Table House as well. The giant cat topped city hall *may* remain, but will have to be turned the other way (?). Big Boy Tower won’t be there. The Damned Church, exhibiting the Rubi history snapshots, could remain… probably will.

So it’s kind of a celebration. I knew I’d have to reduce tier soon, and this is a way to do it while staying in Rubi. I’ll abandon less than half the land to give me a cushion between neighbors. This appears the way to go.

The reduction won’t go into effect for several weeks, however.

Ye Ole Watering Hole will stay.

Snapshot1529_006

All of this will have to be derezzed, difficult because it means giving up my original mainland territory (again!). But fronting the forest is the most important aspect in considering what to cull.

Snapshot1529_007

4:32am:

The town has been divided into VWX Town, Essence and VWX Town, Indulgence. The Essence part of the community will remain in this plan, while Indulgence will not. As of now, I’d have almost 500 prims to still play around with on the reduced property — not bad. At the earliest, the reduction will go into effect about Jan. 7th. At the latest: probably early Feb. My last little bit of land in Philudoria, where the original version of The Church of the Diagonal still sits, will also be given up.

The below shot comes from Kerchal, which represents the only other large tract of mainland virgin forest remaining under the protection of Linden Labs (excluding the Linden Memorial Park). Although somewhat larger, in restudying the matter I like the Rubi Woods better. There’s only 1 type of tree here in Kerchal (pines) as opposed to the 2 in Rubi. And there’s no grass in Kerchal, and also the land doesn’t undulate in interesting ways like the former. I still like and appreciate the Kerchal Woods, but Rubi’s is superior for my tastes. I see that now.

Bracket and the family still have House Greenup in Asha as well.

Fal Mouth Moon, The

Snapshot1509_001

New structure in town, but actually quite old. Formerly a haunted hotel, now it functions as a gallery for the Gilatona-Lis[-Falmouth] series (replacing the Power Tower Gowlery on that) and also as a portal to The Moon (replacing the Norris Building on that). More soon!

And, oh yeah, I’m definitely in Rubi for another month. Decision gate passed through.

The Fal Mouth Moon has connections with Bay City’s similarly fowl Falmouth Hotel via wig topped Red Skeleton. It’s also associable with The Shining’s cursed Overlook Hotel in snowy Colorado. An exorcism may have taken place there in past/present/future.

About

For a bit, all the Baker family avatars were spread out from each other, exploring different parts of Second Life. For Baker Bloch, an attaction became some small islands at the eastern edge of Sansara’s Sea of Secundus.

Snapshot1455_001

He notes the similarity between the design of the evil eye he finds there and the croppie beer logo found on the 1st Falmouth collage. This is indeed *awareness*.

Snapshot1455_004

Snapshot1455_005

Bracket Jupiter, in the meantime, was bumming around his old hangout, the Bracket sim’s Magicland. This was the site of the village he presided over as King of the Stans, with his former castle towering over it to the southwest.

Snapshot1457_007

He inspects an art gallery now found on his old castle’s mountain, and immediately stumbles upon 2 works by a person named Bracken. He understands the synchronicity.

Snapshot1457_011

Snapshot1457_012

Bracket is not pleased how the top of the mountain has been redesigned. He deems it artificial and forced.

Snapshot1457_014

Returning to VWX Town, Bracket confers with Cardboard Derek Jones about the possibility of moving back to Corsica, perhaps Asha. He explains that Baker Bloch is attempting to set up the true House Greenup there. C.D. seems very excited; Bracket Jupiter has become his new BFF.

Snapshot1457_016

Bracket Jupiter inspects the location of a former rival Corsica castle. This would be in Fisher Rigg, talked about some on the old Baker Blinker Blog (LINK). The town has since been basically derezzed. Bracket doesn’t miss it, and tried to destroy it himself several times with his fleet, or so he claims.

Snapshot1457_026

A new city has sprung up close to the old location of Fisher Rigg. Bracket comes away not too impressed. Not even worthy of an invasion, he thinks.

Snapshot1457_028

But Asha could be different…

Thoughts.

Earth (Erath?) was known as Bricker to Piepodt. It was Southwest of Piepodt. Casey (The Alien) was as well. Sean Decker. Z-man in the past. 3rd hole of Piepodt traditionally filled with bricks. Erath was also known as Goldilocks.

Two bears are here (Polar, Bryant). Flanked by Elton. Blue Eyes. 3rd Bear? (like 3rd stream)

Grizzly Adams (Haggerty) is a woodsman during the frontier era who flees into the mountains after he is wrongly accused of murder. While struggling to survive, Adams discovers an orphaned grizzly bear cub whom he takes in and calls Ben. The bear, despite his huge adult size, becomes Adams’s closest companion.

Power Tower Gowlery almost finalized.

Snapshot6677_001

I’ve been looking around at other land some, but I have no real reason to move from Sansara Snowland right now and my 4096 square meter parcel there (which is actually a square). So I think I’m stuck for at least another month, or until something else comes up that looks more appealing at that moment. I’ve been poking around my virtual neighborhood a bit but no blog pictures yet. Maybe that should change. But I’m so involved in Wiltshire County England still, and now Spring hiking season is upon me (time change comes Sunday!). So I don’t think virtual reality is going to be much of a focus for a while. That said, I’m real pleased about how the Power Tower Gowlery turned out — perfect fit for the Gilatona-Lis series and aided in its shaping, even.

03/11/13 update:

Snapshot6680_001

Looks like the Power Tower Gowlery containing the new Gilatona-Lis collage series will be balanced on my Snowland property by another skyscraper (lower left in above photo) holding the Wheeler-Jasper series, the last 20 collages of the Art 10×10 from 2009, and then two more conceptual collage/photography exhibits: the Quadtower (lower right center) with the Baker Bloch in England pieces, and then the Sync Lair (left of the Power Tower) with the Synching Creek Designated Mystery related photos and maps created about a year ago. The exhibits also balance each other as a whole — for instance, the Baker Bloch in England story can be seen as a direct continuation of the flow of the Gilatona-Lis collages, even thought the latter came after BBiE.

I’m debating on whether to keep the Kidd Tower (smaller tower next to the Power Tower) on my parcel… not sure if I’ll be working on that particular project again in the near future. Would save prims to substitute it with a shorter structure. Currently I have just a tad over 200 prims left to experiment with.
