doomed

He couldn’t quite resolve the ruined and useless parasol from this distance — thought it another of the circling ravens at a glance. But this particular black shape remained motionless unlike the others. And it was more triangularly. He better go investigate.

This is when Dickie Doom first sat on the Throne of Jethro. Or was it the Bauer Throne. Anyway, that’s when he initially surveyed the ruined Fries with Cheese church where former New Island neighbors Mrs. Fogg and Ms. Frame hid out in the dark, dark days after the apocalyptic lime kiln explosion. Deafening it was to their ears, blinding to their eyes. Yet after several excruciating hours the sights began to return for each, the sounds. Silence all around for the longest time. Visuals, but of wrecks. Twisted metal. Tires. Crates and doors and chairs, paint removed by the disaster. Highways broken and trust up in the air instead of grounded and whole. The insects remained, hidden in the filthy soil. Then the birds came back. The blessed birds. The insects scuttled out. The birds swooped in, first one, then a few, then a flock (or murder). Gobble gobble. The cycle of life and death was restored in this small way. This opened the doors for others: rats, of course; a few wild cats who ate the rats, and then the larger animals. Mastodons. No, not mastodons. But some other large animals. Hippos might have numbered among them. Tigers. Yes: tigers. And dogs the size of rats the size of cats.

And the ruined parasol mirroring the ruined church turned out not to be black but purple, the color of violets. Dickie Doom missed flowers greatly.

He better get back to the shelter.

“Jeez I haven’t been here in quite a while, Tin Tin, er, Axis. 1/2 a year? Maybe more.”

Axis, who was a dog now, couldn’t answer, but kept indicating spots of significance from before with his sniffing nose.

“That gun is *never* going to stop firing at me. The only way I can stay here… with you… is to keep sitting on stuff. This blue inner tube I always loved, for instance.”

And then, let’s see…

“She can’t return to that moment, on that bench. Pain. She’ll die over and over again.”

“One more try, Albert.”

—–

“See her leg? This must be where she was made, Alex.”

“The guns are silent now.”

—–

“Look. There she is again (!)”

“So Karl (Karl!). What’s the story with the painting of the little girl with the blue purse?”

“That goes back a looong way, Dr. Superhero. With *blue* bowtie,” he adds on.

“Please, Mr. Bartender. Do tell.”

“I just did.”

He realizes the bowtie is the same as the purse, listening Mystic Girl thinks from the far side of the bar. Both tack ons. But does he realize he *is* the painting now? I created him. I should know.

“Something just happened, Karl.”

“Oh boy,” the furry bartender exclaimed anxiously, and quickly left the scene, claiming to be restocking in back.

Like Tronesisia, Leeman or Leemon has also become mobile enough to make his way over from New Island to Fishers Island and its Wallytown.

But he’s only seeing half the story so far about Bottle Mound, etc. He’s stubborn like that.

island art

On weekends, when business was brisker, Ruby Roo worked as a receptionist for the Tina Queen Photographic Gallery, located almost exactly a city block west of her multi-story treehouse house she still resided in. But former housemate Tin Tin was no more to be seen, and Ruby suspected that he may have been drafted for the most recent version of the Trojan vs. Durexians war over in the east mountains where Timmy was from. Poor Timmy, she laments. Not born to exist in the harsh environment of Meat City — ideally should have stayed put in the hills supported and nurtured by a loving foster mother and father. But wars do that; separate loved ones from loved ones. She misses Tin Tin, but not nearly as much as Timmy.

Ruby puts on a brave face and continues inventorying the most recent batch of photos her boss Tina had taken during the week.

A very prolific snapper she is! But Second Lyfe will do that to you; so easy to take pictures here. Ruby herself, inspired by Tina and also the more abstract work in the Roads Gallery across the, well, road from this one, has taken up playing around with art a bit. Here’s an example of a computer sketch she made for a sculpture tentatively titled “Scratch”:

Here is a related work-in-progress she might call “Itch”:

Marvelous indeed. The more she becomes immersed in an artistic journey of her own, the more she finds herself attracted to rural and bucolic New Island for setting up a potential future studio — maybe at Mabel’s old house? But is the island still there after the Limekiln Catastrophe? Perhaps it depends on if she *wishes* it to be so. And she’s starting to think she does. She does indeed wish it to be so.

Maybe a switcheroo is needed: Fishers Island exchanged back with New Island. *Fishers* Island is destroyed, perhaps by that new burny fellow who just biked across its westward bridge.

The eastward bridge would then open and allow refuges to return to their former homes there, radiation levels subsided.

Hmmm.

“Thank you. I try.”

Fisher thinks this could be one of those nights he also employs Bendy for that other thing they don’t talk about much. Sure wish Lisa V. was here, he laments. I wonder how she is — way over there on the Corsica continent in her big ol’ houseboat. *Alone* hopefully.

“New Island, Rocky; Mid Hazel’s place to the right. If you cross that bridge, go down that road, you may never come back.”

“I hear ya, sister. Let’s go back to the night club. *Our* night club now. No renting any more. Don’t dwell on all this bad stuff. Turn your back on it. Literally… turn around.”

So Tronesisia takes Rocky’s advice and pivots away from the bridge to face full on the island that is truly home now. Her new New Island. Or at least Fisher’s.

She has become mobile again and will not return.

New Post

Bendy enjoyed his new job as receptionist for the spaceship that Dr. I.C. Yourinsides and Capt. Spocari Nemoy and others worked in. The latter passed through every morning on his way down to Wallytown and the surface, and also passed by around 6:00, 6:30 in the evening when he returned. Bendy had only seen Dr. I.C. once so far — no real need for her to descend to this lowest deck (with the highest number, though: 15) since she is still unable to go groundside because of the continuing effects of the New Island radiation, even though they are no longer that near New Island. Fisher or Fishers Island is their home now. Their New Home. As stated previously, Spocari’s saving grace in this respect is his not-red-but-green blood.

From his switchboard console, Bendy had access to *some* of the ship’s information and history. It was that Bottle Mound in Alabama which made all this possible — and necessary. The two dead Greys at *Wallytown’s* mound (of similar height — a doppleganger mound, in effect) are not really dead, nor Greys. Hector and Lewis, and also likewise deceased Gerry slumping against an interior wall, didn’t really exist. Something else was going on. That’s why they haven’t been buried. They are merely “signs”.

Former receptionist Willard Picard had just moved to Chicago in the Real World to work at a newspaper, father Justin’s dream of the young man eventually succeeding him as the ship’s Chief Communication Officer be damned. Thus the reason the post was vacated when Bendy teleported up and then met a surprised Cpt. Nemoy about a week back. “It is not logical that you sit there in Willard’s place,” you might recall him saying at the time while training several guns on his head.

The robot reports on Wallytown were blocked to Bendy. No possibility of getting the scoop on Tronesisia, then — for now. Just the info about the Alabama Bottle Mound and attached Nehi Indians, as well as histories of the ship’s crew such as Nemoy, Yourinsides, and Picard (both of ’em). The ship was called Cuthand (CU-than), after both a witch and a wizard who either were married or siblings; Bendy couldn’t conclusively conclude from the information at hand.

BOTTLE

“I was able to pull the interwebs up this time, Baker — Pitch! I just had to set my group to Blue Feather. Wrong group before — too much shopping for clothes, I suppose.” She laughs a bit.

“Right. Getting right to it, this is Fisher Island, Alabama in front of us, Bill slash Wheeler. In an alphalist of islands named Fisher in our user’s US of A…”

“Soon to be destroyed,” interrupted Wheeler Bill.

“Well, let’s not rush it.” Baker Pitch continued. “Our Fisher Island in Wisconsin next to one of only 2 New Islands — and we’ve identified some oddities involving that *second* New Island, in Georgia…”

“Which we won’t get to tonight. Go on…”

“In an alphalist of islands named Fisher, this Fisher Island, Wisconsin comes last. But if we *rotate* back to the first of the list, Fisher Island, Alabama would be next.”

“Okay.”

“Notice on this map, Fisher Island (Alabama) is quite bigger than the one in Wisconsin. We now think this could be an *evolution* of the energy of Fisher Island, even further beyond New Island now. Wisconsin was a base to talk about the transfer from one to the other. But here in Alabama we have what seems to be the true center of the energy.”

“Alright. When are we going to talk about the mounds?”

In a minute, Bill.”

“Okay, Pitch.”

“The first thing we need to do to prove this is to *expand* our idea of Fisher Island here. Below the actual Fisher Island, on the much larger island in the Mobile Bay delta containing the mounds you just mentioned, there is a Fisher Lake, and also  a *Lower* Fisher Lake. Together they form a kind of loose diagonal running across the larger island — with the mounds again. The concept of Fisher seems to be expanded or inflated to cover the entirety of the larger island. And we can prove this by noting some anomalies between this larger island and the Fisher’s Island in Our Second Lyfe, namely the abrupt discoloration of the surrounding river on the western side, and also the matching curves of not only the western rivers in each case, but also that internal river running from Mifflin Lake on the Alabama side — quite obvious, really, if you study it. You can see that as we switch to satellite view of the island.”

“Let’s skip that, Pitch. I know what you’re talking about. To me — and I’m *still* the most important one to convince — Fisher Island has expanded to become the larger island with the mounds. Next topic please.”

“Well, just moving a bit southwest of this officially expanded Fisher’s Island, on the Mobile County side of Mobile Bay, we have a population place named Axis — only one in US — and then just below that, a Pennsylvania — again, only one in the US of A, besides the state of Pennsylvania. But that is a state and not a town.”

“I know the difference.”

“Now remember, Axis asked Eraserhead Man for the fire demon Gus in (Collagesity) novel 9 so that he could make his High Castle *mobile*. And, expanding again, we can see he became even more mobile and moved from New Island to Fisher Island, perhaps much to his surprise. He went groundside again, wasn’t harmed like the other biological agents in the spaceship (already there), and located Ruby in her democratic empire just east of Meat City, changing into Tin Tin for disguise. But I think that whole subplot has gone haywire, Bill. Interference by Gwin, who is the same as Jill MacGill in Eraserhead Man’s Urbane Blue production.”

“You’re making my head hurt again, Pitch. The proximity of this expanded Fisher Island in Alabama to Axis and Pennyslvania is beyond chance, yes. Axis becomes Mobile through Pennsylvania — which is Eraserhead Man because of all the Twin Peaks stuff in that state.”

“Pennsylvania. Not Alabama.”

“Yes.”

“Plus — he’s a pencil. That’s his nickname too: Pencil. Like Pennsyl(vania).”

“Right.”

“So,” continues Bill. “Eraserhead Man — Pennsylvania — gives Axis Gus so that the latter can become Mobile — in his High Castle –”

“Yes.”

“And this mobility eventually lands him beyond New Island onto Fisher Island.”

“We should end with a picture of the mounds — dominated by one large mound, just like *our* Fisher Island. These are in the northwest corner of the expanded Fisher Island, Alabama.”

more doubling

She had to pick her way through solid, floating rocks, flowers and grass, but Ruby finally made it to the couch where Gwin was sprawled out, the girl her age who lived in the smaller unit next to her tree house. Her and Tin Tin’s house, she accepted. But where was Tin Tin these days? But, more importantly, what has happened to her empire while she was away working at Tina’s gallery for the weekend?? Future empire, that is.

“*Where* is all the stuff in the middle?” she asked Gwin, then faced out across the basically empty expanse as well.

“We were suppose to have a sim wide meeting right there on that circular couch day after tomorrow.” The sitting 15 year old girl breathed deeply. “I watched it, you know. Madame Silver just swooped in and started deleting things right and left. In a rage, she was; I could tell even from this distance.” Like all proper thespians, Gwin’s voice was strong and dramatic. She sat up straight, folded her legs under her torso. “Until today I thought I should have stayed in EM’s Urbane Blue as Jill MacGill; dealt with the stupid doppleganger plot.” She then plopped down off the floating couch, facing Ruby square on. “Yet you seem to be another doppleganger, Young Ruby. 15 1/2 you say?

“Yes. Permanent.”

“Me too. Where were you born again?”

“I’m last from New Island. You know, just across the bridge from Wall Island.”

“That’s not what I asked you.”

Ruby decided to make up a birthplace. “Collagesity. Over on one of the oldest continents. Most commonly called the Atoll Continent.”

“Geography was a speciality of mine in school, Young Ruby. You don’t have to lecture me about landmass names. Heterocera is the offical terminology for that particular continent. It is the second oldest, after Sansara. That one contains the mainland’s only permanent snowy region. Then 3rd came Jeogeot, but far to the south of the first two.” She kept on going. “Then in the eastern hemisphere we have Maebaleia or Satori, almost a double in area to Jeogeot but not quite; then Nautilus above that, an archipelago really and not a continent; then Corsica just to the north of that; and then, moving even further east, Gaeta V, one of 5 continents planned as a super continent of some sort. But only Gaeta V — admittedly don’t know why they called it the 5th — was finished. And then this one.”

“Omega continent,” Ruby finished.

“Yeah. But that’s not the official name. And now you reside here with me in Meat City. Not the heart of Meat City — been there done that — but on the eastern edge, between town and country really. But it seems we may have lost our saving sanctuary. Madame Silver is either making wholesale changes, or she’s just tired of this democratic empire in the middle of squalor, ready to give it up instead of passing it onto you, the rightful queen. Or president, I guess we should put it, since it is a democracy and all. How do you feel about all this?”

A whirlwind of information this *Young* Gwin is! Ruby thought. Should she say: “depressed”?; “elated”?; “don’t care one way or the other”? She decided to go in the direction of the last option. “I had mixed feelings all along about taking the, er…” Should she say “gig”? She decided it was a hip, flippant word to use here. “… gig.”

“Gig?” Gwin snorted. “I would have sawed off *both* my legs to have this ‘gig’ you so flippantly brush off as unimportant.. so so. Do you know who you are? Do you know what this is?”

All Ruby knew in the present is that she was really starting to miss New Island and, especially perhaps, Collagesity. She missed Shirley Boot and Ragdoll, who are one and the same. Indigo too. Mabel, obviously. Yes: *Mabel* is kind of sort of her mother, Ruby thinks. Maybe *she* knows where she is born. Actually born.

“Tin Tin was here,” spoke Gwin boldly, snapping Ruby’s reverie. “Says he’s joining the army. Up in [delete name] just over in the country — up [delete name] road. You probably know the place. Full of boys, boys, boys. I think Madame Silver put him up to it. Maybe you should go visit him. Maybe talk him into coming back… if you wish. If you care about this place at all. You were destined to be married, you know. That was the plan. And *I*, Young Ruby — just so you’ll know — am your understudy in that direction. Get my drift? So I don’t care one lick if you go visit him and talk him into coming back. Because that’s what I plan to do, say, um, *this morning*.”

She then shows Ruby the engagement ring.

A central, heart shaped ruby just to rub it in all the way.
