art beings

“I want to change further, Axis. I am not happy being me any longer. Look at the women Rhode photographed here. Beautiful.”

“You have changed, Young Ruby,” Axis advised. “You are now Fairy Ruby, a natural extension. And certainly quite beautiful. Natural beauty. Not like these more fake examples in my opinion.”

“Look at what I found on the marketplace,” Ruby declared, and then rezzed a new top. “Another natural extension?”

“No, Ruby. Put that foolish thing away. Fairy Ruby is quite satisfactory to me, and besides, we get to be married to each other as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. At least for a while.”

“Until the end of the season, yes.” Ruby persisted. “But how about this with the top.”

“No Ruby,” insisted Axis, staring at the manifested hair. “You are trying too hard. Let’s go to the upper floors, to the more abstract art. That will cheer you up and inspire you more. Leave these so-called realistic photos behind. They’re affecting your confidence.”

“Alright. But I’m going to test out my new look a little longer.”

“That’s fine.”

—–

“See Ruby? You passed this accident right by. Intermixed red and green again. Back of a Rhode work instead of a front. Sometimes looking at what’s happening behind the stage, for example, gives more information than the play itself.”

Ruby runs ahead, ganders at the front…

… then looks all around the floor. “Huh. I guess you’re right, Axis. Everything is separated out neat and tidy in front. Green in this one. Red over there. Then green with a bit of red but only in one distinct streak, then another two reds and then back to green over here. ‘Green Monster’. The one we talked about before.

—–

“I’m not a monster, you know,” stated synchronized Gregg, sitting at the table opposite Mr. Babyface in their unfinished Middletown penthouse apartment. “I got’s real, true feelings. I like… Bailey’s in a shoe. I like watercolors. Watercolors of Bailey’s.” He pauses thoughtfully in his ranting. “I like you.”

“Oil me up, then.” Accompanied by a small buzzing sound, green Gregg Oden changes over to red Greg Ogden. Mr. Normal.

“Ah so.” But Mr. Babyface had been thinking lately that “normal” Greg(g) could do with a little more monster inside him. Might help their sex life. He dare not try all that out with the monster itself yet; not quite yet. Must keep using oil. No, he must think of other things now.

back to Snowlands

“We brought her back. She-he’ll just have to live with the changes (in Purden).”

—–

“It’s good to see the kids having so much fun at Christmas Season.”

“And the animals too!” tittered Tiny Tomita Thumb below him.

“Yes indeed Tomita.” Uncle Jack turned. “But we have a new guest tonight.”

“What to do with him, what to do with him?” Tomita trilled while Uncle Jack eyed the axe in the far corner of the kitchen. A small buzzing noise then occurred.

“Oops. See? Look at that. Happened again.”

“Terrr-if-ic!”

“I don’t think he-she’s coming out of there, wife of mine. I think we’ve lost her-him to Utah.”

“Don’t always be so negative about things, husband so dear. Utah was chosen by all.”

They paused, considered. Then Fairy Ruby, who was now playing the permitted seasonal role of Mrs. Claus, spoke up again.

“I wonder if Snowmanster will show up to save the day? Like Superman.”

“Depends…” and they both say this in sync: “… if our user splurges the 400 lindens to make it so.” 4 again, I realize beyond the screen, like 40,000 but 100 times less. 2 dollars? I think I can manage it.

—–

“I’m here to save the day!” an extremely, nay, *irritatingly* high pitched Snowmanster wannabe called from the edge of the compound.

“Cheapskate,” groused observing Santa-Axis softer to his wife. Then: “Okay, um, *Snowmanster*! Come join us by the fire for a powwow won’t you!”

“Don’t mind if I do! Don’t mind if I do!”

—–

He was still yelling, even from a few feet away. “Well?! Who’s going to start!?” They stare, waiting for the change. Will it come? Hold on…

boss visit

“At least he seems to have gotten rid of some of the bugs,” spoke Fairy Ruby, anxious to get this over. Those red curtains…

“Is there any other way?” Axis looked at his nails, also nervous.

“No. It has to go through him. Prearranged condition.”

—–

“Marriage!?” Cigar smoking Philip Strevor was incredulous.

“It’s just a seasonal thing. It’s either get married or be buried.” Fairy Ruby leaned foward. “Please, Philip. You’ll be rewarded later on. I promise you. Anything you like. Just don’t let me be… killed again.”

She leans back and thinks of the consequences just exposed.

seasonal

“Well Brevin. Time to face death square on.”

But upon teleporting in, Fairy Ruby sees there are no more freshly dug graves to examine. She logs out then back in to make sure all objects at the small cemetery have properly rezzed. No difference.

Just three remaining graves surrounding a Halloween Bat Tree. All have been around for a while.

Maybe I better talk to Axis tonight about all this.

—–

“Still playing around with form, I see,” stated Axis after sitting down in the Winter Harvest Chair beside the red clad fairy. He notices the hearts. “I like it — but why did you change your hair from black to white?”

“Death will do that. Scare the color out of you.”

Axis glanced back at the shrunk cemetery surrounding the dark tree. “Did you know I was Halloween Jack before the merger? And Nick, and also Melvin, who is kind of Uncle Sam. The great 3-n-1. Would you like to see?”

Fairy Ruby finished her last bite of cherry tart. “Sure. Let’s see what you’ve got.”

Axis focused hard, but found he couldn’t produce the needed entity. “Alright,” he said, exhaling. “That’s no good. Let me try the next one.”

“Melvin?” questions the girl.

“Oh. That one.”

“Yeah. Sorry it turned out a little hunchbacked.” He attempted to adjust his unwieldy arms so that they weren’t as much all over the place.

She looked him over. “Listen. I have an idea…”

cross

“You’re changing over again.” Her voice was watery and lilting, slightly evil. “You must have stared at that chess piece too long, you *king*.”

“You said there was treasure here in the High Country,” he declared firmly with iron voice. No joking around for him now.

“There *is*.”

“But not up here.”

“No,” she admitted. “That was a trick. Did you enjoy my trick?”

Axis didn’t answer. The transformation had been completed. “Better go groundside then.”

“In just a minute. I’m going to take an (alchemical) bath first. Clean myself off of all this fairy dust.”

“Suit yourself. I’ll leave without you.”

reanimator

It was time to confront Madame Silver at the main house. Ruby’s Democratic Empire must come into being *now* or else the perpetually 15 1/2 year old’s newly laid out plans might be in vain. She knew the experiments were ongoing going on.

—–

“Oooo, I’m getting more insights from the Big Brain, Axis.”

“Good, good,” replied her partner in crime, not looking over from his tests in the background. He’d seen all this so many times now. Contact with Braynard. “Now how do I make this Spider Baby come into being?”

“It’s the 200th,” Madame Silver says,” removing herself from the enabling head gear and turning toward him. “The brain must be aligned with the 200th. Unch. That’s what stabilizes The Diagonal. We’ll be able to recreate the forest *here*, then.”

“Well, cut me a choice piece of Briney’s specimen and bring it over. I’m recalibrating the coordinates on my end.”

“Alright.”

But as Madame Silver raises the knife to do as Axis says…

… her hand suddenly begins to quiver.

She quickly drops the blade on the floor and moves away from the precious brain.

“Ohhhhhh. Side effects coming!”

Jill MacGill/Gwin spouts the history of the place she and Axis wait at for the ambassador.

“‘The water at the upper dam of Fish Lake, also known as Lake Three’  — that’s because of its shape and not because it is the third part of some series,” she adds as an aside, then continues. “Let’s see — ‘… falls vertically in contrast to the gentler step cascade of the lower dam.'” She turns to Axis, who was formerly the boy known as Tin Tin. There was no need to keep up that disguise any longer, since the marriage was off. To both Ruby *and* her effective doppleganger Gwin here. “That’s because of the salmon. The salmon need some way to get to the lake to spawn, where they themselves were spawn.”

“I know how it works, Gwin. But thank you for the passage. I’m going to go over and look behind said waterfall now. See what has changed since my last visit as that snotty nosed boy Tin Tin.”

“Disgusting,” agreed Gwin, shaking her head. “Try to remedy that the next time you incarnate as a hormone raging teenager.”

“I’ll try.” Axis gets up off the curving bench. “I’m going over there now. You wait here for Briney if you don’t mind. He said to meet him in the northeast corner of the plaza and we don’t want to miss him. Again.”

“But I want to see *too.*”

Axis looked around, gauging distances and space. “All right. But leave your red book on the bench — open — so he knows we’re here. In case he misses us standing over there. You know how he is.”

“But…”

“No one will steal it,” assures the red crossed man, guessing what Gwin was thinking. “It’s just a old book *prop* and not an old and rare book itself.”

“Oh yeah. Forgot.”

“The camera’s right over there. Remember?”

“Yeah I know. Hi Bert!” She waves to the cameraman, who hesitantly waves back.

“We should get up. The script demands we get up.” But Jill MacGill/Gwin was still thinking it’s a continuity error as she lays down the supposedly rare tome. Plus it could damage the spine keeping it open like that.

—–

We’ve seen this before, Pitch. That tome is ‘Winesap’.”

“I suppose it has to be, Bill.”

—–

“Way down there, aren’t they?”

“Completely vertical, like I said.”

“And last time I checked — for the purposes of this shoot earlier today, you understand — we have yet another avatar that winks on and off while switching colors between green — cypress colored green, or the darker variety anyway — and silver.”

“Like Madame Silver,” Jill MacGill/Gwin tacks on, thinking they need to get back on script.

“The name is Emerald this time.” Axis checks the location behind the waterfall remotely. “But now she’s not there.”

“Could be other clues,” suggests Gwin. “Don’t give up so easily.”

So Axis scouts again and perhaps sees something else.

“He’s checking the water in Glinda. He’s in Glin, but holds the glass in Glinda, then scrutinizes it. The he wipes it down in Glin and starts again. Over and over it goes. He understands it is different over there. He’s afraid to step beyond the boundary, else…”

“Phantom,” completes Gwin.

“He’s trying to figure out why. Scientist?”

—–

“No, they’re *both* over the line. Both in Glinda. A man and a woman. Adam and Eve, then?”

“Incendio!!!”

“You know that wasn’t really Lisa the Vegetarian Smipson you burned alive at the stake back there. Just someone else — yellow.”

“I know. Still felt good.”

Wonderland

Fisher was having one of those dreams where all he could do was sit in a particular spot and look around.

Wonders.

A man with a red cross on his chess beckoned him down off his perch to play chest, insisting he take white.

“Black goes first,” he said after Fisher is seated, promptly sliding a pawn to King 4. Fisher found he was frozen again, unable to protest the rules change. The pieces moved before him against his will. It was over in 13: black triumphs once more. “Boris Spaskey!” he cussed, then imagined a black crow perched on the tombstone of a freshly dug grave. He didn’t dig it. He didn’t!

Objects spread beneath the waters in all sorts of mad ways.

A captain and his trip.

Dorothy at the beginning of both the yellow and red bricked roads. Spinning.

Another dreamer floated nearby, a mermaid.

She was having a slightly different dream where Fisher sat at a red desk and watched several stationary red spots in front of him.

When he moved, they moved (slightly).

It was time to talk to the red brain-heart.
