Perch: the restaurant is still intact.
Angus Nuffin still cooks there; burns perch occasionally.
Magika Bean waits for her date.
“Hi baby doll.”
Newlyweds Sid and Martha are disappointed that the Harry Potter themed Diagonal Alley is no longer in Corsica’s Shedao sim, but they’re still having a lot of fun tonight at the replacement attraction of “Chedderbarrel: A Day at the Zoo.” Open through May 15! Lots of freebie cutouts too.
Local resident Green Squirrel even has a job there again: playground supervisor, but mostly he just plays in the sand himself. Helps pay the mortgage on his and wife Huma’s Julia House located in Asha next door. You may remember he worked as a Slytherin salesman in the Horizontal Lane part of the Harry Potter setup from Collagesity novel 10. After being unemployed for most of the winter and spring, he’s back at it again. Huma has already spent a good chunk of the first paycheck on a new dishwasher. She’s tired of washing dishes by hand, especially since GS doesn’t help out that much. He said he’d try to remedy the situation and do more work around the house. We’ll see.
Quitting time. Time to get back to the Asha hills and a well cooked meal of seasoned trout and spagetti-o’s. What a wife!
Time for Sid and Martha to head home as well. They and their children Indigo and Ragdoll are the last inhabitants of Collagesity, left behind as caretakers for the Rubi Woods through their PotD organization: Protectors of The Diagonal, with The Diagonal now also known as the Head Line. Not sure if they’re additionally helping preserve the more recently discovered, parallel Heart Line as well. Have to ask them soon…
Hmm. Still not feeling it.
And where’s Mary? Better get back over to the Blue Feather.
Core avatar Baker Bloch has lost his connection to Pitch Darkly, thought Woody Woodmanson from his snowy abode positioned on the opposite corner of Fal Mouth Moon from Darkly Manor. Still not feeling it.
But it’s time for me to leave as well. New resident moving in. And rent for me! I’ll live in the gipsy wagon behind my own manor; become a gipsy myself, he he. Artist Alley must be built up. But we’ve had a setback with the loss of Julia (cottage).
“You should bring it back, Spongeberg.”
“I didn’t take it in the first place (Julia). I am just the destroyer. I don’t designate what is to be destroyed.”
“I follow the patterns of the user. Like all of us. Pitch Darkly is having trouble connecting to base avatar Baker Bloch now. That’s because the Head Line (Diagonal) is now being balanced and integrated with the brand new — newly *discovered* Heart Line down more in the southeast part of the continent. Which, when turned around, becomes the northwest part as the hand is postioned rightly. VHC City lies on the Head Line. Collagesity through Rubi Woods: the same. I speak for the user now, as all of us can. We can channel the user. That is the unique aspect of the core avatars. Period.”
Baker Bloch nodded while still listening to Spongeberg Resident, Collagesity’s resident destroyer. Nodding off, that is.
He was in a hotel in the middle of Vermont. Bernie Big Run sat in the southeast corner of the room but he was understaffed and had to take a back seat to…
Who was that in the northwest corner?
“What is this place, Baker B.?”
“Morgan. Morgan, and, over there at the bell, Julia.”
“Hmm,” offered Hucka Doobie the bee person. “Let’s meet at your place instead.”
“Yes, I can feel it.” Hucka Doobie checks his inworld map for the general lay of the new diagonal, this “Heart Line” Diagonal. “Where was the spinning train?”
Baker Bloch checks as well. “Umm, Velox. Two sims up from us. We’re in Sabulella. Between Velox and Sabulella is Vashti. Beyond Velox is Webworm, Polia, Ufeus…”
“I get the picture,” interrupted the bee person. “I was called in because you finally, *finally*, got in over your head.”
“Well…” Baker Bloch started to protest.
“But you did,” Hucka Doobie completed matter-of-factly. She tried to turn toward the interior of the Tao Lodge they sat just outside of but found she couldn’t pivot her head. “Let’s get up,” she rather commanded. “Let’s go look at the painting that prompted you to give me a call. *Finally.*”
“Here’s another Dali painting I missed before.”
“I don’t think that’s a Dali,” proffered Hucka Doobie, walking up. “Let’s go see the real Dali.”
“Just around the corner here, Hucka Doobie. Tigertail, Stinger, Chick all in one.”
“Hold on, Baker B. I’m seeing something else in this one.”
“A map. A map that freaked you out, grid lines running all over the place. What has this dude been up to? you asked yourself upon reading his profile. Chick, Tigertail, Stinger…”
“But the chick is the elephant, and not the chick on the ground. Gala. Dali’s muse of course.”
“The chick is the elephant,” Baker Bloch reaffirmed.
“A nice fire. A laughing monk. What next, Baker B.?”
“I think you know what’s next.”
“It really was all my fault, Martha my dear. I was overthinking the situation.”
“Think nothing of it. The Diagonal was being misused and you stepped in, just as you should.”
“But this one is different.”
“Who’s going to tell the children, Sid?”
“We’ll do it… together.”
“So Duncan,” requests Sid (Angus) at the Blue Feather Table after taking a sip of milk. “Continue with the report on what you’ve found.”
Duncan stared at his right red hand. “Berry… disengaged from Gaston. Berries gone. Jacob I. and Sugar Dumpling with them, but still alive in their case. Thimble *might* remain.”
“Is that your hope? Or something based on solid conjecture?”
“Former, admittedly.” He thought of the great view again. ‘Nother Sugar House. “Oh, and The Musician too,” he remembered to tack on. “At least according to Jiff the police psychiatrist.”
“Good, good. So… Duncan,” summarizes Sid. “You say these only two ‘Vila’ sims are directly linked one with the other. Core-Alena in her green car was able to successfully enter Vilania from The Straight…”
“I would like to correct you on terminology, Sid. If you don’t mind.”
“Go ahead, Duncan.”
“The Straight is shared between Reality and Virtual, so my conjecture is on the Virtual side it is the same as the 4 sims bordering Foothill Drive. This makes Utah’s Foothill Drive the east side of The Straight, and not The Straight itself.”
Sid turns to Curled Paper, who was taking notes (in his head). “Make sure in the minutes that The Straight is noted as being the same as these 4 sims, Mr. Paper.”
Curled didn’t nod, but Sid knew he would take note, as requested. One of the two librarians at The Table then spoke up, surprising everyone (even himself): “Gorilla. Mind Gorilla.”
All stared for a beat. Then Sid continued. “So…. next we have Hank driving the red car… and that’s good, Librarian 01,” he then realized. “You remembered the mate.”
[delete 1 exchange]
“Anyway,” started Sid again. “Hank, being less pure of heart, didn’t make it back to Vilania after the Fairy Forest heist but switched over to Vila… erm, *Gaston*.”
Duncan suddenly recalled one other person that could remain. Heidi.
But where? Where could Heidi be hiding? At the Hideout? The intermediary Big Between?
Likely explanation. The Big Nope is the failed or closed portal, the lone “willow” at 2013.
Takes two to know, once more (1719). Safe Zone; Safe Passage.
1890’s Big Between is the observatory, neither here nor there. Core-Alena can see her-himself but not at the same time.
The world seemed a little haywire tonight.
And Duncan was feeling a little stupid because the actual center of the Rhodenwald sim was *not* the pumpkin cart he thought before — and which the owner of the parcel was “hiding” behind when he first met him — but, still, this *orange pumpkin* between a playground fence and the outer wall of that hedge maze also mentioned in the last post.
And the green dot representing this person on the map definitely *was* at the center. He thought… maybe he was wrong all along.
But it also seemed a little peculiar that, night of all nights, Duncan finds anomalous plane objects in these particular Rhodenwald parcels owned by Black.
Although they disappear quickly this time.
Let’s back up a bit…
“We didn’t want to tell you about the anomaly quite yet but something or someone is forcing our hand. Happened April 19th of this year. Reported in the community forums — you can read details there.”
Duncan wondered why Sid/Angus Nuffin moved to the table and away from the suave chair beside him he was sitting in to pull up the appropriate interweb pages. Had he finished with it?
“Notice also,” Sid continued, “that whoever took that inworld picture of the map was standing right on the site of the Rhode Gallery, even though the gallery wasn’t yet there at the time; only built a little later. July I believe.”
“Queer,” came Duncan’s simple response. It was all a bit overwhelming, especially adding in the Rhode synchronicities concerning the Meat City-Kamas UT overlap. Hidden mountain treasure? Was that what this was all about? Pot-D as gold seekers? The Diagonal itself as a red herring?
“One more thing for now. Look at the picture before that one on the community forum post.”
Duncan tried but failed. “I– I can’t pull it up,” he admitted, embarrassed.
That’s what we suspected, Sid thought, and had to show him a little later.
Sugar House. The reason they brought Duncan Avocado into the club in the first place.
“You have to pay attention to everything around you. But it all must reference back to The Diagonal somehow.” He stared at Golden Jim in front of him, standing on said line just like himself. “How does it feel?”
“No different than anywhere else,” confessed his current boarder, a fellow shapeshifter like Angus (Sid Viscous — present in the scene), and his daughters Indigo (Vanille Mills) and, now — as of the end of the last Collagesity novel — Ragdoll (Shirley Boot). Just passing through, he said. But Angus/Sid knew differently. “No different than back in the trailer, for example.”
“You’ll get the hang of it,” encouraged Sid, knowing the strange yellow dude was lying. He turned to his right. “Now let’s go see what we have with Ms. Snowwhite Well.”
“See? This image has recently been seen in The Bakers’ blog as an element of Fisher’s dream nightmare over in Braynard’s Place.” Sid quotes the ending line here: “‘Whom Bee Thee?’ See how *well* this works, Golden?”
“I’ll have to check when we get back to Collagesity.” But Golden Jim knows how The Diagonal functions, and, indeed, it works very very well.
“Time to go on some tangents. Hope you brought your walking shoes.”
Golden Jim looks down. “I must confess that I did not.” But that was also a lie.
In the Sister sim of VHC City, Sid stands on The Diagonal at 148/148 and notices a diagonally placed stack of books.
149/149: He stares at a blocked grey wall full of white lettered names. “Songwriters and Musicians” they are collectively labelled.
Back to the book stack, which you can sit upon. Quite a few poses. Being a dad himself (and a swell one in our estimation!), he likes how the stack is made by DaD Designs. Sid picks up a book from the pile, opens it at random, and begins reading:
For over a year he had been beating his way along the south shore of Lake Superior as a clam digger and a salmon fisher or in any other capacity that brought him food and bed. His brown, hardening body lived naturally through the half fierce, half lazy work of the bracing days.
Fisher again, he thinks. Fisherman. Change of name. Just around the corner in the next room is an Apple Fall Sunbleached Sete — directly on The Diagonal this time. Can he take the book in there to read further?
Yes, but at 142/142 he quickly, almost instantly, falls asleep and has a dream about craftily editing fig leaves.
He wakes up, gets up, stares down at the couch. Midday already. Quite a nap, he thinks, and ponders on the dream he then remembers. 2 statues trying to make their way through a trapping waterfall into a brave new world. Bickering about which sex is stronger, and who will take on which role. Adam and Eve, he realizes. The couch did this. Fall from Perfection.
But he better teleport back to the trailer and feed the dogs (Newte and Jaspo); they won’t eat for anyone else in the family, not Ragdoll, not Indigo, and certainly not the rather seedy dimension skipper they took on as a boarder since Collagesity novel 9 ended who presently goes by the name of Golden Jim. Sid had unspoken plans for him, though.
122/122, thinks Baker Bloch playing Pitch Darkly. Accidental uncovery — The Diagonal has power still! As researcher Angus Nuffin, aka Sid, has recently stated. Fantastic. A way to take focus off of the Omega continent and back onto Heterocera. I *knew* there was more to find here. Energy still present. Let’s see how Sid fits on the bed (but mustn’t linger).
Ahh, yes. Perfect. This feels right.
Angus Nuffin/Sid. Back on the case again.
“Red green yellow blue, Indy. We better retreat back to whence we came. This goes beyond square into cube!”
“No saving her,” his daughter agreed, and changed back into Indigo. Mission aborted.
Returning to their Rubi trailer, Angus (Sid) and Indigo broke the sad news to Ragdoll, who then secretly smiled a little inside while thinking back to their heated confrontation in front of Max, etc. But Martha Lamb’s story within our new Collagesity novel is perhaps not done.
“Yellow. Yellow yellow yellow. I’ll say it til I die.”
“That – can – be – arranged.”
Alright, maybe it is now.
