Spillville

“I’ll have what he’s having, Furry Karl.” Karl pours Karoz Blogger a glass of red house wine. “Add it to my tab,” Karoz then says, making the bartender sigh but nod.

“Pay up by the end of next month,” he warned. “And Tom’s rent is due as well. Where’ve you been? Galavanting around space still?”

“No,” says Karoz. “I’m done with that.”

“You mean *Wheeler* is done with that,” Furry Karl corrects.

“Yeah,” Karoz admitted. He took a sip of wine and looked down at his hands.

“Well… good to have you back still, I suppose. Just kidd’n. I missed you. A little.”

Karoz smiles. “I’ll pay you back, Furry Karl, I promise. You know I’m good for my word. I’m pulling some extra shifts at the Bodega Market to make up for lost time. And Wheeler granted me a stipend. I’m working for her, and I’m working for Tom.”

“How did Tom the Busker get ownership of that market again?” queries Karl, referring to the store directly across from his own establishment in SoSo Mall.

“Excuse me,” said the stranger also drinking wine to Karl. “Do you have a magnifying glass by chance? I can’t seem to read this one particular quote in lower type.”

Furry Karl looked annoyed. This stranger had been sitting at the bar for what seemed like a week to him. “No, I don’t have a magnifying glass. And this isn’t the library, by the way. That’s through the mall and down Old Cannon Road to your left. Maybe ol’ Bean will have a magnifying glass over there. Why don’t you try.”

“Oh, I think I can just make it out, thank you anyway,” says the stranger, eyes closer to his book now and either oblivious to Karl’s annoyance or just not caring if he does notice. He murmurs softly to himself now as he reads.

“Anyway,” Karl continues. “Spill the wine.”

Karoz tips over the wine glass.

“Not *literally*!”

“Sorry,” says Karoz. “So clumsy.”

“I’ll go get a rag from in back,” says an exasperated Karl.

The distraction worked. Karoz didn’t have to answer another question about Tom for almost a whole week. And by that time, he’d also figured out some more lies to tell about his job over at New Island. Polishing the silverware; yeah that’s it.

When Furry Karl returned, Karoz had already cleaned up the spill with a borrowed book. “Well, I suppose it’s time to get going,” the stranger said, making Karl’s frown turn upside down.

Pink Think

“We are getting ready for the next step foward, Syd. You and I. Together.”

snapshot8301_004

“I just had to figure out how to get rid of that inside demon. And I’m becoming a bit pink!”

snapshot8301_002

“Yes, this might do for an audience. Next!! hehe.”

snapshot8301_007

“Oh. Already.”

snapshot8302_001

“Well, I’m not quite ready but what the heck. Let’s give this a try. Welcome Tom Busker! Bow to Syd before addressing me.”

Blocks

Tom the Busker was schedule to perform at Starbuccaneers on the night of Tuesday, October 26th, but we instead found him encased in a force field of his own choosing. He wishes not to be famous. He is blocking fame and wealth. Another blocker.

snapshot8311_006b

So in place of a pleasant evening listening to the avant-gard stylings of a master at his trade, Baker Blinker and Baker Bloch mainly stare at each other in muted desperation. Spongeberg is also at Starbuccaneers.

“How’s the sushi here?” he asks the couple beside him, trying to help.

snapshotq_001

“That’s the Blue Feather,” Baker Bloch responds rather tersely. “Down the road.”

“Well… what are we doing sitting here?” Spongeberg then asks.

“Wow, some view, eh?” says Spongeberg at the Blue Feather 15 minutes later. “Where’s the food?”

But Baker Bloch “answers” Spongeberg by turning into Steptoe Butte again, one of the 3 members of the infamous rock band known around these here parts as Story Room.

snapshotq_007

“Get me Karoz,” the headless entity responds in a much more ghoulish voice than Baker Bloch. “And this time: make it real.” He laughs like a banshee and fades away.

“Why are we not friends before?” asks a likewise changed Baker Blinker to Spongeberg. She has pitch black eyes now. “I am Baker too.”

snapshotggg_002

“I — I don’t know lady,” Spongeberg stammers. “I don’t live here. I just came to hear the music. Tom whats-his-name. Tom Busker? No: Tom the Busker. Actually, I don’t know his last name. I just heard he was good. Furry Karl recommends him. So does Cardboard. You know Cardboard (don’t you)? Lady? Hey lady?”

snapshotggg_003

“What’s she doing out there now?”

Baker Bloch blocks the Blue Feather back up as they leave. They’ll get no reasonable food there this evening. “Haunted,” he finishes.

Collagesity: Central Paradox (etc.)

Below is a collision of 2 buildings in the heart of Collagesity that can’t possibly exist together. One must be off, one must be on. Right now the box-like Gallery Jack, holding 60 of the 100 collages of the Art 10×10, is “on”. In the recent past, it was browner and more irregular Toxic Art Gallery holding 80 of the 100 collages of same here. Will the situation switch back in the near future? This is my paradox: the central dichotomy, structure-wise, of Collagesity all is built around, as I’m perceiving it now.

Enter Karoz

Snapshot2160_001

Writing abstract stuff about Whitehead Crossing always seemed to make Baker Bloch hungry. So he decided to take a break and walk up to the Bodega market to get a snack.

He was attempting to pay for his Yum-Oh Chocolate Bar when he recognized the figure behind the counter. “Karoz Blogger, as I’m living and breathing! I didn’t know they brought you back as well. How long you been working here?” Baker Bloch realizes he hasn’t visited the market in maybe 2 weeks. Trying to lay off the sugar, you see.

Snapshot2160_006

“Day after Christmas. I think it’s a good gig,” Karoz responded.

“Well cool. How have you been doing my friend? How’s tricks?” Baker thinks how low Karoz has sunk from being a college president, but, of course, doesn’t say this out loud.

“Pretty good. I’ve got a gun now.”

Snapshot_001

“Everyone’s got a gun,” says Baker. “So you own this place outright or just manage it… or just work here?” Baker realizes he’s getting into awkward territory. Don’t mention the lowering of status! he reminds himself.

“Tom Wilmot owns the place. He bought it from Hucka Doobie. You know Tom, don’t you? The town busker? He’s not been playing outside for a while. I think he went to medical school for a couple of weeks in Mexico.”

“Good one Karoz. Firesign Theatre references are springing up everywhere. I just used one in my last Whitehead Crossing post. Do you remember US Grant having General Lincolns in his back pocket?”

“Kind of…”

“Oh, and “The Giant Rat of Sumatra” just came up in a facebook reply to a friend. You know Cammie by chance?”

“I don’t think I do,” says Karoz. “Is that your sister?”

“No, she’s the wife’s best friend. And my best friend as well. She’s *like* a sister to us, so maybe that’s where you got the idea.”

“I thought *I* was your best friend.” Karoz tries to smile here but only manages to laugh maniacally. He apologizes afterwards, saying he needs to expand his gestures and that he’s a little behind the times.

Snapshot_002

“So am I my friend,” gives Baker back. “So am I.”

“We need to catch up my old friend,” Karoz says. “When can we do it? I work the night shift, obviously, but have the days free. Not much to explore in Second Life any more, as I’m looking around. I suppose we need to talk about… the end.”

“That’s exactly what we need to start talking about, all of us. I want to get your story so it can carry on. I think you have a lot to say.”

“I do,” responds Karoz. “So how about tomorrow? And you can keep your linden dollar. Put it in a museum with the rest of everything.” He laughs maniacally again.
