back room

“You shouldn’t be smoking that in here Heidi. We’re just kids here, you know. What if we get *caught*?”

“Speak for yourself, George,” she replied about the kid part.

The boy looks around. “So — we’ve turned down the lights. You’ve smoked half your joint; I’ve drank half my coke. Where is she?”

“Just give her some time.” Heidi Hunt Ives takes another toke. Again: she’s not really a kid.

“12:36 now,” he says after checking his Mick Mouse watch. “Maybe we should go. I need to get back to the park.”

“Well there you go,” she offered about the time. “Give it another minute.”

12:37:

“Oh my God,” she whispers over. “There she is.”

“Where? Where?”

In the Pond District today:

Axis found a black and white girl slumped against a Rodentia dumpster but did not know who she was. She didn’t open her eyes.

Tealie woke Jiff up in a bad mood, who did not wish to play right this minute.

So she instead goes to visit the grave of her old friend Matthew Lodenwald. What a blow to the community when he died!

Bob Richards continues to reads scrapbooks of the war and laments how he will never see his beloved Alpha again. Oh dear, looks like Li’l Bob’s jumped out of his crib.

Uncle Doomed drinks Jack Daniels in front of the neighbor’s Blob until passing out.

Lucas Smart tries to figure out how his life went so wrong.

Chris Caveman lumbers out of the Rodentia Underground, worse off from the experience.

In the local arcade, punk band Story Room prepares to play Cruise Control with newbie Grassy Noll, snickering about whether he’ll even make it out of the first turn.

Also in the arcade, Bill (Wheeler) confers with Rocky Racco about her most recent name change and move to Iris. “Heterocera is still at the fore of my research,” she reassures the learned writer. “I haven’t forgotten about Olde Lapara Towne, Collagesity, VHC City, or any of the rest.”

“Good, Wheeler.” He scratches his nose with his free paw. “Did you know that my cousin Tealie now lives in this area?”

Tonya Two Egg…

…. seems to be trying to communicate with me again.*

I’m assuming this has something to do with Heterocera’s Pond District, but could be wrong.

Baker-as-Duncan pondering what it means.

hooked and hookless

“An artist, huh?” Karl says in his gruff voice. “Not a prostitute.”

“That’s my life goal,” affirms Annie, who will pick up about any man available in the stripper club. Actor/writer/inventor Tom Casey was just one in a long line of suitors. Norris JERRY Harry too.  To be fair to Karl, she has a particular thing for thick, strong arms that will completely envelop her during an embrace. She turns to face her present lover’s large, bald head.

“Because my guess is that you’d make one hell of a whore.”

She smacks his cheek, but not hard. Because Annie agrees with Karl about that. She *is* a slut, and good at it. If it wasn’t for that New Island book by that Moth fellow, it still could represent a natural endpoint. But she saw the drawings, read the detailed text. Artist Point, a colony of realistic and abstract creators alike.  She wanted to venture into the latter but so far had stuck to the former. And now she had a strong desire to paint *Karl*. In the nude, of course. That’s another add-it-to-the-list one, because she’d already done Casey, done Harry. 15 paintings accomplished just this past year (!). The ability was growing. And she read about a nudist beach at something called The Hook where she could hang out and pick up men. Check out the goods beforehand. Not in a pervy way, but in an *artistic* way. Okay, 1/2 and 1/2, she admits to herself while thinking about their large, thick arms, etc.

“Sisters just up and left you, huh?” stated Karl, getting serious for a change. He’d never had a family of his own. Just those crazy, fast food neighbors of his who were the focus of the… his reality. But since he was 3d again, perhaps he’d eventually have to go back to the old house, the old life. His thick coat of fur had disappeared upon, er, awakening outside in the Bluebird Cuddle Van. And how did he get here in the first place? That remains a mystery to him. Must have been some hell of a party.

“Yup,” answers Annie. “But I have only one *real* sister,” she clarified. “Tonya Two Egg; went with Harry to wherever this Mimosa is. She’s hell bent on finding JERRY, you know.”

“JERRY?”

“*Yes* Karl. I brought up JERRY two times before. You must have been staring at my legs.” She skillfully raises her skirt an inch or two while shifting her position in his arms. She’d learned that trick a long time ago.

“Oh,” utters Karl. He vaguely recalled something about that now. And, yeah, he’d been staring at her legs a lot. Here’s another one with a thing for thin, like Tom Casey. Speaking of which, they’d better get down to what he was here for. “Okay, babydoll. The night is growing, um, later. There won’t be any more stars in the sky than are in your eyes right now.” He’d learned that line a long time ago.

First thing in the morning, they rezzed Annie’s small fishing boat at the nearby community center and headed south, intending to go through Horizons’ 4th and only hookless region (ironically enough) to reach the continent of Zindra. Karl had nothing to leave behind; he’d only been in Horizons-Pluto for a week. And Annie had already sold her land next to Mt. Tom, so hell bent was she upon this New Island.

Both sisters fixated on the same type of place. And there were more connections.

New Island by boat, huh? We’ll see about that.”

beamers

When it got dark enough, Tonya Two Egg’s two egg shaped eyes “turned on”. She’d had this ability since infancy, according to family members. It also gave her special vision to see things that weren’t *quite* there in reality but actually really were still.

Like Marion here, crashed out on top of the couch formerly occupied by Harry.  Uncle Harry he insisted she call him at the end of their conversation, which was refused by the wise child. Just because he was one of a *number* of suitors strung along by her 18 year old sister Anorexia — Annie — doesn’t give him that privilege. She had only one uncle she knew of: Dick. And he had moved away when she was 8 to distant Mimosa (so they said), several years after Arale had been constructed. And not too long after the mysterious disappearance of her parents. Couldn’t be coincidence, she had concluded while pondering the odd conjunction down through the years now. Dick must have known the whereabouts of Ruth and Benjamin. And then there was also James and Fuschia, Billy and Donovan, Jackie and Ona. And the strangely cool yet confusing Sis brothers. All flesh and blood family members. All gobbled up by an unknown force between the times of June 2010 and October 2013, she’d decided. She even had a name for it now: JERRY. All caps. Tonya Two Egg was bound and determined to uncover the nature of this, in her eyes, malefic entity.

13 Annie was at the time. *Just* old enough to act as their legal guardian under Horizons laws of the day. Upheld during a 2015 hearing involving 23 such guardians under the age of 18 — grandfathering in the old law the judge had called it. And now she herself would be 13 in 2 weeks, old enough to be on her own according to the same exemption. And Arale too — they could move. She was already secretly scouting out locations away from the prying eyes of her older sister. The ice fishing shack near their house acted as a dream portal.

Arale was so excited for her sister… was planning a big birthday ta-do, which Tonya Two Egg had discouraged but also had become resigned to participate in. Cousin Rufus was flying in from Mobile, Alabama. Ted and Jemima from Jacksonville City. Bob and Wanda — little Utah village of Indiana County in Pennsylvania. Never mind that these were more robots created by her own robot, and that, outside of Annie, no one knew the whereabouts of any of her real family. Mechanoids were her true kindred spirits now. Tonya Two Egg has even pondered that she herself may be a very well made robot sent back to our present from the future.

And this turns out to be spot-on truth.

Wastelands

Marion Harding sees those red and greenish lights above him again, but in a different location.

And he’s wasted as hell from the pot recently purchased from drug lord Santa God at The Octopus Ink.

“Who *are* you guys??”

“So we need to talk, Harry,” spoke Tonya Two Egg to the bleached face man sitting across from her. “About Annie. About a lot of stuff.”

“It’s not safe here,” he replied, then glances over at the giant bong to his right.

But no one was there.
