The Tall Walk

“I tell ya, Hucka. If I could just find a nice, understanding city to settle down in (like Cassandra City), I might just give up Collagesity here. You wouldn’t mind, would you?”

Hucka Doobie, walking beside Baker Bloch straight into the setting moon as well, pauses before answering, knowing the truth ahead of time like she often does. “I’d — give each equal weight.”

The moon gone, they were passing underneath Perch now. The head was still absent above them at the main entrance to the restaurant, revealing the clock beneath that brought back sane time to this virtual village of mine, me as baker b., or Baker Bloch, animus, and Baker Blinker, anima, combined. Instead: Carrcassonnee possesses it again, just like in the beginning, the great 3n1. But is she yet fully activated? What about new sidekick Frank who replaced former sidekick Spider? Where is *Spider*, then?

“Thinking of the past?” Hucka Doobie spoke over, seeing the glazed, dead eyes again. “The future inside the past?”

“Maybe.” I was a bit defensive of her prescient presence (present?) sometimes. We walked further, past Mossman’s bar, past funny feet John Lemon. We seemed to be heading out of town. But where?

New God

“Paperville. It’s certainly an interesting concept, Hucka. And I might have met Zappa here. It’s like he just strolled by when I was walking my cow around like a Monkee. Said my music was too white, and I indicated my body, which is very white indeed. Well, cream colored. Skin colored — see there how racist I am Hucka Doobie? I think of skin as white, cream, but there’s all hues. Red, yellow, green —

“Not yet,” Hucka Doobie replied about the last. “Mabel is a forerunner.”

“Of course.”

“But to the Pen Temple. It’s actually Penntemple.”

“So I see. Like Paperville is almost Paperville but not quite. And then there’s Pageville somehow, er, laid atop Paperville. Like, well, a transparent, um, page or something.”

“Fifty-six. Look into fifty-six.”

Peter walks through the tunnel leading to the temple and changes into a former form in the process.

Pens within. And some pencils.

A secret door, leading to…

Home. Director’s seat. Axis Original, Authentic.

Now to get back to work.

umbrella dunces (i.e., all of us)

—–

“We have to get the brain back, Hucka Doobie. The Abbey can’t survive without it! I’ve seen the picture of the others. It always ends with collapse.”

Hucka takes another sip of her espresso, then: “Perhaps it has something to do with Phil. He is a good spirit aid. He believes in the Piera. He will convince the others.”

“Well — I am READing his book. Finally. I felt that he was waiting.”

“Patiently, though. Spirits are patient in general. Moreso than we are. They have — *time*.”

“It’s *good*. It should have been published.”

“It still can,” returned Hucka Doobie quickly. She takes another sip. She looks beyond Baker Bloch as Kevin A. at the red and green illuminated school in the background. Like Christmas and Santa Claus. “We better get over there. Figure out Unwrap what’s next in the story.”

He looks over at the letters, most of which he doesn’t understand.

“Let’s start at the very beginning,” Miss Crumplebottom offered to Kevin E., helping him read and turn back into Kevin Orchardsity with the A B C’s and 1 2 3’s and all.

Abbey

“My son use to *love* going to the elephant show over in Raccoon…”

“Great, Biggie,” interrupted the male Baker, wanting to get away from the character’s origin. “But let’s stick to the topic. Tell me what you saw happen in Room 03.”

“An outbreak, like I said. A loving wife killing her husband. Stabbed him in her eye, short ‘n’ sweet. The Triad is trying to get rid of any evidence of its existence. Thus the trouble in Dallows.”

“I’m not talking about that right now.” Baker Bloch pauses in his grilling to ponder the fate of the missing town there, and the rebuild. He checked yesterday. Only a couple of houses and a small forest to ride your horse through. No progress on that possibility. He resumes. “Let’s stay with the motel. You say your pal Mark A. saw a woman slice a man’s head open down in the town hospital and remove his brain, stick it in a sealed jar, and leave the hospital with it. How did he not tell the authorities this?”

“Witchcraft,” stated Big Black Smoke plainly to the primary owner of Urqhart’s (or thereabout’s) Collagesity. “And it was *no* man. It was a *God*.”

“Ahh, yes.” From their blue table and chairs, Baker Bloch looked around at the creation and saw it was good. David A. Or B. Both probably. But now: David A.B. Normal. Mr. Everyday Ordinary. He looked directly into Biggie’s eye. “And where is that Diamond of a Brain *now*?”

Big Black Smoke peered around as well, at the noisy cockatoo to their side spouting nonsense again. He could barely think above the racket. An umbrella cockatoo. Probably had all the answers. But who could understand her?? Except…

“Did it go home?” Baker Bloch guessed in the noisy silence. He wondered how long it would take *this* creation to collapse, just like what happened over in Stranger Creek.

lean on me

“Are you going to open that can of worms *now*? You can’t fish properly without them, you know.”

In the boat before Baker Bloch, Yoko Ona seethed. “Who are you to tell *me* how to run my business? They agreed upon McCartney-Len –, I mean, Lennon-McCartney, *years* and years ago. I am honoring my late husband’s wishes. Marty just wants to rock the boat. He’s a trouble maker. In fact –.”

“He’s not even Paul,” Baker Bloch guesses. “A switch occurred. Arkansas,” he followed, thinking of how five progresses into six. Not quite all the numbers but getting there. Didn’t matter, though. *Here* he was Marty. All the signs were that he was Mozart instead of the other way around. And Lennon Lemon was, well, the other one, the *Jealous Guy*. He told this to Yoko Ona, standing her right side up so he could see directly into her eyes, into her soul, tell her what went wrong — and perhaps right as well but wrong especially. At this moment, in this instant.

Something happened to make Baker Bloch rethink his strategy. Yoko Ona returned to her boat, putting away the worms for good. There would be no fishing today in the Heartsdale Bay. Mid-Hazel had her tied around her little finger. It was the more powerful witch Baker had to deal with from now on. He had met his match. Time to send in the female (again).

Elmers

Afterwards, The Arab took Baker Bloch on a walk through the local vineyards to try to cheer him up. He knew, because of the new outbreaks, that he’d most likely never make it out of Corsica alive. He was *stuck*.

Eventually he was able to steer the conversation back to Peakology and a positive outcome.

LOST

“Come on. Pick up, pick *up*”

“Says here, Baker Bloch, that the Corona-V pirates have come back and are now focused in on Arkansas. New reports are coming in all the way from Mountainsburg to the west, Formosa a little to the north, Kate to the east, and, let’s see, I can’t read what’s south of Arkansas.”

“New Orleans,” spouts Baker Bloch, not in a good mood because of the news. He’d just posted a rant about it on Facef-ck.

The Arab squinted further. “New Something, that’s for sure.” As hard as he tried he couldn’t make out the second word of the printed name in the article, like something trying to fade from existence or hide itself somehow.

“They’re such *dummies* over there,” Baker Bloch further groused.

Amanda finally heard the ring in her purse.

review; grounding

“I’m starting to really believe it would have worked either way, Hucka Doobie. Whether I stayed in Fordham on that high, arid Nautilus ridge or moved to Urqhart or thereabouts on the Corsica continent for a little more space and greener pastures — wouldn’t have mattered. *Both* choices are factored into the continuation of Our Second Lyfe, as especially chronicled through the photo-novels. Either way, we are still away from the sacred Rubi Woods and the heart that started it all. I had the perfect place, Hucka Doobie.”

“Not perfect,” responded the bee-friend who Baker Bloch befriended over 12 long years ago. A lifetime! “You didn’t have a regular 8192 bordering the woods. You *had* to move (to accommodate the 8192 Corsica Prime map). But I agree that either choice would have been okay. We’re more toward the end of these things than the beginning.” She stared at me with large, understanding eyes. I wondered who she was, deep down. And whether *we* would continue. “Good to think about this stuff now,” she reinforced across the way.

“Well,” he sighed and looked out across the landscape from their Perch perch. “Let’s take inventory.”

“Okay.” Hucka Doobie took another sip of tea laced with something a bit stronger in preparation.

“Mabel’s House. Is Mabel still around? I’ve been asking that for what seems like years now. And maybe they have.”

“She can be,” Hucka Doobie responded simply enough.

“What’s it doing up on that knoll, for example? That’s different (from Fordham).”

“Fork in the road,” Hucka Doobie said. “Choices made. A marker to mark the occasion by.”

“Hmm.” Baker Bloch scouted around for another object in the vicinity. “Barry X. Vampire’s house at the end of one of the two paths leading out of Collagesity in that direction. I suppose that’s an easy one. He’s kind of *writing* the current novels, Hucka. That’s his writing headquarters. Staring out at that rotating tire to write compose ‘The Revolving Wheel’ or something.”

“We can *go* to these locations anytime you want to to get more of the story. And there *is* a story here.”

“All right let’s take Boos, then.”

ice cream eyes

What happened in Room 03? she pondered while looking down at it. Did Jane kill hubby Ben Wolf just because he called her — *Plain*? Where’s Olive, I mean, June now? After the separation. The hills look lovely over there. I wish I could go hiking in them.  My suit is too big for my torso.

She ends her reverie and turns in the old church with the high spires with the crows.

“Linda Halsey, yes,” Mid-Hazel spouts with her ancient, crackly voice while checking. “We lost track of you at Jim’s Bar. The bomb was dropped, true enough. How did you manage to get out? We know about the others. Please reveal.”

Heavily suited Linda Halsey stood her ground. She knew she was just a pawn in a bigger game that expanded across the galaxy, nay, the *universe*. And in the middle… well, a…

the blue and the pink and the ??

“It really is a nice location, Baker Blinker. Sorry about the (missing) Mission.”

“‘Tis okay. Perhaps there’s another portal on this Isle of Heartsdale. Maybe Zero somehow? Connected to all the figures (numbers)?”

“Possibly. I plan to ride Teddy down to the bay soon. Maybe we’ll find more there. Remember, *laugh*, remember how you ran into Buurb down there with Precious Snowflake? Boy you had to amscray quick! Don’t want to confuse the young boy-girl any more than he/she already is/was/will be.”

“Yes, I am both Baker Blinker and Precious Snowflake at once,” speaks Baker Blinker, staring over at herself as the crows gather in the church spires once more. “But I’d like to add to my repertoire.”

“You had Tillie,” replied the male Baker quickly.

“Yeah, but a gaseous, dumpy clown doesn’t really count in the long run.”

“Karoz,” guessed Baker Bloch about the dismissal.

“I want to be — attractive.” No one brought up Wheeler but it was on their mind.

After a pause, Baker Bloch asked: “Will you be coming back to the *new* Collagesity over in Urqhart or thereabouts?” Baker didn’t ask if Karoz would be joining her; it was implied.

“I suppose the Temple of TILE remains an attractor (for Karoz primarily).”

“And the Julia House — still at the top of the waterfall. Might be a Julia*n* House now.” He smiles. He imagines Karoz smiling with him across the sea.
