Jungle

“I’m telling you, Baker. This trees has eyes (!).” Ruby Fantasie turns. “And what is that ridiculous outfit of yours suppose to be?”

“I’m cold,” Baker states plainly, then fakes a shiver.

“Cold?? It must be 95 here! Take that silly thing off.”

“I… I haven’t got any underwear beneath it.” Baker blushes slightly.

“Well. I’ll turn my head until you find another outfit. We must talk!”

—–

“You scared Bob, Baker. That’s not a good sign.”

“Maybe I just took too long to change and he got bored.”

“No, there’s something more. I have other things to show you now.” She points down the clearing. “Geraldine. Counterpart to Bob. Let’s see what she does with you.”

—–

“Easy going fellow, eh?”

“But she’s not heading toward you still. Sideways at best.”

“What does that mean?”

“Let’s go to the waterfall,” Ruby Fantasie then declares. “Beyond the pool which is sort of a decoy, I suppose. You think: there can’t be another, hidden pool this close to an exposed pool. That kind of thing.”

“Lead the way.”

“We have to backtrack a bit.”

—–

There she is, Baker thinks. I feared I lost her again.”

—–

“The exposed pool,” Ruby Fantasie explains. She turns. “Then over there, behind some rocks: the hidden one.”

—–

“What now, Ruby?”

“We go down.”

Celebration

“But what will I do without Duncan?” George asks Baker Bloch between sobs.

“You’ll move on son. Forward. But not here.”

“I wish we would have never found that book, that rule.”

“Too late.”

Race

“Stop *staring* at the man, Baker Bloch thought about Horace Wise. It’s like he’s never seen a black person before.

“So,” Duncan began, obviously conscious of the riveting gaze, “looks like we’ll have to start without our Mountain Lake representative Ms. Well.”

“A *wo*-man,” spoke Horace Wise incredulously from his side. “I think not. We already have [delete rest of sentence].”

Baker Bloch breathed deeply. Looking at him, Duncan decided to jump in first. “First of all, we’re African-*Americans*. Just like you Horace.”

Horace Wise finally broke his stare, sighed, and waved his arms around in despair. “The Virtual Chel-sea Hotel, the finest building, most likely, in this whole, wide conti-nent. Represented by *you*.”

Alright, that’s it Horace,” states Baker Bloch angrily. “I’m evoking class *5* status by rights of being the *author* of this novel — a *Collagesity* novel, after all — and saying that your Philo is disqualified, disqualified, *disqualified* from the race for the treasure. Now — *get out*. It will be between me, *Duncan* here — a man like yourself, thankfully, or I don’t know *what* you’d call him — and then Lou, our representative apparently from the Mountain Lake region of the Omega continent.” In his rage, he left out the remaining candidate at the table: Teepot’s Jeffrie Phillips.

But Horace Wise didn’t leave immediately. “You’re taking all this serious-ly. The” — he looks over at Duncan — “*black* man here. Then a woman. *Wo*-man.”

“Yes!!” Baker Bloch’s yell could probably be heard all the way over to Horace’s hometown.

And this is probably what a lot of people were like back then. And could still be. Yes, probably were around in good numbers still. Philo is *history*, but history repeats.

Providence too

“I assume you’re here about the treasure hunt,” spoke Collagesity representative Baker Bloch to the stranger sitting beside him, breaking the awkward silence.

“Y-es,” proclaimed Horace Wise in a surprisingly stilted voice (to Baker). “We think we have what it takes in Philo to complete the task — wrap everything up neat and nice-ly.” He looked at Baker directly now. “Take it *home*,” he furthered.

“Philo, huh. The retro-village? Just over there?” Baker Bloch points in a southeast direction from their position atop the Virtual Chelsea Hotel. And, yes, he was already trying to be slightly dismissive of the haughty tone set. In defense mode.

“We are *not* re-tro. It is just that most people around us — on the continent — are from the *fu-ture*.” Horace Wise scanned his neighbor with protruding lower lip. “Like your-*self*, apparently. What fair village or town or city do you represent? Are you a class 4 burg? 3? Dare I say: *2*? We are proudly a 4, since we span two sims now, Myron and also Catal-pa. We actually, in a way, share the Catalpa-Tessock sim with VHC City, another 4.” Horace Wise paused. “I assume VHC City is in the hunt as well, since we’re *here* — at the Chel-sea. I wonder where their represen-tative is, though?”

“I represent Collagesity, by the way,” a now truly irritated Baker Bloch said. “Class 2 burg, I suppose we are. Considerably less than a sim. But we have the forest to boost us up.” Baker waited for Horace Wise to ask questions about the forest but they never came. Instead, he roosted on the class 2 aspect. Instant disqualification in his mind. Just like the case with Rodentia  — all the rest. The many “others.” The wannabes in his mind. Like stars you can’t see with the naked eye in the sky. Don’t matter; nothing to see.

“Hmph,” instead came Horace Wise’s simple, cuttingly dismissive reply. They sat together even more awkwardly after this, waiting for others to show up. Baker Bloch dare not look in his eyes again.

“Is it a place of good…

… or a force for evil, this new New Island?

Fishers Island. Eraserhead Man might know, but he’s already done with this particular Collagesity novel, taking his strange troupe of actors along with him. Loaded onto the Isle of the Top Dog, they are; destinations: unknown.  ‘Out there’, as Captain Spocari Nemoy might say. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Bill/Wheeler paused in her story, took a good look at Baker/Pitch sitting opposite her.

Still wearing his Russian hat (she must look up the name of that thing). Still fretting over when Mary gets home, what she’d like to eat on any given night, what wine to buy her, will her several different changes of clothing with different fabrics have to be washed separately or can it be done altogether. Small problems, nothing that can’t be solved with a little more experience and know-how. Yes, he is knitted together with his woman. And as such, he can never really go back to being plain ol’ Baker Bloch any longer. That’s the takeaway about *him* from this novel she’s receiving.

But herself? It’s a more complicated story, involving Philip Strevor, Marion Harding, True Opp (Tropp — *not* Troop). Maybe we can revisit the third one for more answers. Last we checked, he’s still up in New Eden, hanging around with Madam Mexico and Mr. Peanuts.

“But what did Ruby see there?” Pitch then asked (yes, she’s just going to think of him as Pitch from now on). “What is the ending to her Democratic Empire story?”

“Nothing,” answered Bill confidently. “There was no one in the lab. Just a stack of cheese in its center. And… a moth.”

She hesitated slightly, then: “Wait! There *was* someone there. Is!”

122/122, thinks Baker Bloch playing Pitch Darkly. Accidental uncovery — The Diagonal has power still! As researcher Angus Nuffin, aka Sid, has recently stated. Fantastic. A way to take focus off of the Omega continent and back onto Heterocera. I *knew* there was more to find here. Energy still present. Let’s see how Sid fits on the bed (but mustn’t linger).

Ahh, yes. Perfect. This feels right.

The Diagonal.

Angus Nuffin/Sid. Back on the case again.

Scrutinizer Central

“Tronesisia, in her sly way, has led us back to VHC City’s Realm of Orange, also known as Sphere of Influence. George is pictured here peering intently at it in Collagesity novel 4 — scrutinizing…

… and then also here in the current novel (playing Young Herbert Dune in EM’s ‘Urbane Blue’ production). He peers at the orange in each case. Circular perfection.”

“No, you don’t get it, Pitch. I should know. He *doesn’t* peer at the orange, but just outside. Around the outside but not within. That’s what Tronesisia is warning us about.”

“We’ll have to bring her back, Bill. To Collagesity, I mean.”

“Baker Blinker’s old house…”

“Of course. Just like before.”

“But there’s Bendy to consider.”

“Bendy and Tronesisia — or Tronesisia and Bendy — go the way of Fisher and Lisa.”

“Or Lisa and Fisher.”

“I knew they’d let me come back.”

BOTTLE

“I was able to pull the interwebs up this time, Baker — Pitch! I just had to set my group to Blue Feather. Wrong group before — too much shopping for clothes, I suppose.” She laughs a bit.

“Right. Getting right to it, this is Fisher Island, Alabama in front of us, Bill slash Wheeler. In an alphalist of islands named Fisher in our user’s US of A…”

“Soon to be destroyed,” interrupted Wheeler Bill.

“Well, let’s not rush it.” Baker Pitch continued. “Our Fisher Island in Wisconsin next to one of only 2 New Islands — and we’ve identified some oddities involving that *second* New Island, in Georgia…”

“Which we won’t get to tonight. Go on…”

“In an alphalist of islands named Fisher, this Fisher Island, Wisconsin comes last. But if we *rotate* back to the first of the list, Fisher Island, Alabama would be next.”

“Okay.”

“Notice on this map, Fisher Island (Alabama) is quite bigger than the one in Wisconsin. We now think this could be an *evolution* of the energy of Fisher Island, even further beyond New Island now. Wisconsin was a base to talk about the transfer from one to the other. But here in Alabama we have what seems to be the true center of the energy.”

“Alright. When are we going to talk about the mounds?”

In a minute, Bill.”

“Okay, Pitch.”

“The first thing we need to do to prove this is to *expand* our idea of Fisher Island here. Below the actual Fisher Island, on the much larger island in the Mobile Bay delta containing the mounds you just mentioned, there is a Fisher Lake, and also  a *Lower* Fisher Lake. Together they form a kind of loose diagonal running across the larger island — with the mounds again. The concept of Fisher seems to be expanded or inflated to cover the entirety of the larger island. And we can prove this by noting some anomalies between this larger island and the Fisher’s Island in Our Second Lyfe, namely the abrupt discoloration of the surrounding river on the western side, and also the matching curves of not only the western rivers in each case, but also that internal river running from Mifflin Lake on the Alabama side — quite obvious, really, if you study it. You can see that as we switch to satellite view of the island.”

“Let’s skip that, Pitch. I know what you’re talking about. To me — and I’m *still* the most important one to convince — Fisher Island has expanded to become the larger island with the mounds. Next topic please.”

“Well, just moving a bit southwest of this officially expanded Fisher’s Island, on the Mobile County side of Mobile Bay, we have a population place named Axis — only one in US — and then just below that, a Pennsylvania — again, only one in the US of A, besides the state of Pennsylvania. But that is a state and not a town.”

“I know the difference.”

“Now remember, Axis asked Eraserhead Man for the fire demon Gus in (Collagesity) novel 9 so that he could make his High Castle *mobile*. And, expanding again, we can see he became even more mobile and moved from New Island to Fisher Island, perhaps much to his surprise. He went groundside again, wasn’t harmed like the other biological agents in the spaceship (already there), and located Ruby in her democratic empire just east of Meat City, changing into Tin Tin for disguise. But I think that whole subplot has gone haywire, Bill. Interference by Gwin, who is the same as Jill MacGill in Eraserhead Man’s Urbane Blue production.”

“You’re making my head hurt again, Pitch. The proximity of this expanded Fisher Island in Alabama to Axis and Pennyslvania is beyond chance, yes. Axis becomes Mobile through Pennsylvania — which is Eraserhead Man because of all the Twin Peaks stuff in that state.”

“Pennsylvania. Not Alabama.”

“Yes.”

“Plus — he’s a pencil. That’s his nickname too: Pencil. Like Pennsyl(vania).”

“Right.”

“So,” continues Bill. “Eraserhead Man — Pennsylvania — gives Axis Gus so that the latter can become Mobile — in his High Castle –”

“Yes.”

“And this mobility eventually lands him beyond New Island onto Fisher Island.”

“We should end with a picture of the mounds — dominated by one large mound, just like *our* Fisher Island. These are in the northwest corner of the expanded Fisher Island, Alabama.”

decisions

“Urbane Blue by Phillip Jeffries, Baker Bloch, er, Pitch Darkly.”

“I see it. I see it very clearly. Laggy in here tonight. Isn’t it?”

“Yes,” replies Bill/Wheeler plainly. “Do you have to go back to Darkly Manor to prepare food in the next couple of minutes? Do you have a moment — 15 minutes, say — for a chat Mr. Mary?”

“Sure.”

“But the pattern — it’s the Black Lodge floor again, even.

Our item PJ-7842. Visit http://www.insidefabric.com to see full details for this product.

And this is *not* the origin of the name Urbane Blue.”

“Bracket’s playing Sandy Beech, eh?” Pitch says, half to himself. “Good for him. Found a way to work him into the story. But *you*…” He turns.

Bill/Wheeler shrugs. “I was all set to play Doris Drone as Jill MacGill but then Chloe Price just showed up. Now it’s up in the air. Who do *you* think won the role, Pitch Darkly? I assumed Jill won it, the second actress in that last post. But maybe she overdid it. Maybe Chloe won with her more soft spoken mannerisms.”

“I assumed the opposite. Chloe instead of Jill.”

“Hmmm.”

“Sandy Beech obviously knows who won the part. Maybe we should check back with him tonight. Is Bracket available?”

“Of course.”

—–

“Blue roses at the entrance. Blue policeman — hi Derek.”

“Hello Mr. Beech. Nice evening isn’t it?”

“Certainly is.”

“You gonna explore Smithy’s House?” asked the beat cop. “Not finished yet, though. Don’t even know who’s going to play Smithy, I don’t believe.”

“No I don’t think so.” Sandy then thinks: And that’s not the only role still up in the air.

—–

Who’s Mary? Sandy Beech ponders while trying unsuccessfully to sit on the only provided furniture of the house.

—–

“Oh, that reminds me,” Pitch exclaims, suddenly popping up out of the suave chair. “I’ve got to get home to Mary!”

“Suit yourself. But at least we know,” Bill called to his receding figure.

Post New

“Well it’s working for me Wheeler Wilson. Or are you The Bill still here in this new work?”

“The Bill,” Wheeler Wilson answered. “Sorry again to call you over. The interwebs just wasn’t pulling up for me tonight.”

“No prob. Good we talk and keep up with each other every so often. We are the two chief avatars after all, with 90% of the stuff. Bracket Jupiter is running a distant third at, say, 5%?”

“I wouldn’t give him even that. But I miss him still. Where is he now, Baker Bloch? New Eden?”

“We can allow him to become part of the story again if you wish.”

“I’m having *loads* of fun, but…”

“We can do that,” Baker Bloch reinforced, turning over in his mind how that could work.

“Roger Pine Ridge,” spoke Wheeler Wilson, trying to similarly figure out a solution. “Could Bracket play…?”

“I don’t think so. Roger is a composite being. Composite avatar. He — let’s say he wishes to become one of the core avatars — one of us.”

“Hmmm.”

“Let’s bring him in. I’ve got to change back to Pitch Darkly and fix Mary’s supper now. She doesn’t like leftovers.”

“Alright.”

Baker Bloch paused, staring at the map again before them.

“It makes total sense that the focus on New Island shifts over to Fisher’s Island to its left.”

Or its right, Bill/Wheeler thought, looking as if from behind… inside. 1/2 and 1/2.

—–

“Darn! It’s not working again.” She turned to her new guest.

“I almost forgot how to get a hold of you, Roger. Peter Soso,” she repeated his core avatar name for memory purposes. “Soso, Soso…”.

“Sooooooo,” Roger interrupted on beat. “Are you ready to hear my pitch?”
