Tinbaby

Snapshot4003_004

Things seemed pretty much back to normal in the Hole in the Wall after the Big Rain. Karoz was sitting at his usual spot at the end of the bar playing his card game. A totally intact Furry Karl tended the bar. But there had been changes. Oh yes.

“Karl, what happened to Devil Dave’s trailer outside? It wasn’t there when I walked down from the market.”

Furry Karl glanced out the door. “Oh yeah, I haven’t noticed. Didn’t hear anything last night. But maybe, don’t you think, he’s *gone* gone. Left the scene.”

“I was just getting kind of use to him being here.”

“Oh you weren’t around that horrible night when the rain peaked, Karoz,” responded Karl. “I thought I was going to get eaten alive!”

“But you’re here, and your whole Karl,” reassured Karoz. “How about the New Guy? His name is Dave too, claims Baker Blinker. Don’t you think…”

“He came in here late last night,” interrupted Furry Karl. “Said he had just finished a book by this guy Blood Curdling, and it kept mentioning my name.”

“Well, did he guess?”

“He knows. That’s obvious.” Furry Karl paused, wondering if he should tell Karoz what’s on his mind. “He talked about the Tinbaby.”

“The what?” Karoz hadn’t read Blood Curdling’s Furry Karl’s book.

Furry Karl described the Tinbaby, to Karoz, as a green tinted robot with an exterior beating heart and a spike on top of his head. Actually there is no green tint: that’s just the reflection from the many trees in the Rubi Woods. Tinbaby is made of tin and is colored so. And the exterior heart is just a symbolic one made of plastic. Carrcassonnee knows this being as Dr. Blood, a larger, more grown up version. Dr. Blood can walk about the town freely, but Tinbaby is limited to the 8×5 dimensions of the woods. Furry Karl has seen the smaller entity numerous times. He describes it as a monster.

“Doesn’t sound all that bad, Karl,” says Karoz. “I mean, how tall did you say this thing was?”

“4 feet, maybe 5 sitting down.” Furry Karl was exaggerating for the sake of a tall tale.

“When do you see him? Or is it a her?”

“Monsters don’t necessarily have a sex,” came the answer. “I suppose he (or she) uses that spike on top of his head to gorge things, like a unicorn horn.”

“Unicorn, eh?” Karoz responded. “Is this *new* Dave, this, what does he like to be called?”

Furry Karl didn’t know.

“Anyway, is he still crashing at Baker Blinker’s sometimes?” Karoz eyed Furry Karl keenly.

“I think he lives in Orange Home (at the end of Cannon Street).”

“Good.”

“But,” continued Karl, “he was up all night last night at Baker Blinker’s reading that book.”

“Darnit!”

—–

On cue, Bogota (Dave) walks into the bar and sits down in front of Furry Karl, at the same seat he had the night he first revealed himself. Karl begins to get antsy again. Bogota turns to Karoz.

“Karoz, I’m not going to ask Karl because I know he doesn’t want to go, but I thought you might help me. I need a witness.”

Snapshot777_011

“What’s going on, er…”

“I’ve found the center of the woods, Karl”, Bogota answered simply. “I know a way out… another way. One I didn’t really expect.”

“You’ve found the — center — of the woods?” Karl repeated back.

“Yes.”

Reveal

Carr.:

Ahem, remind me what he likes to call himself now?

Baker Blinker:

Bogota. Like the projected collage series.

Snapshot3035_001
“Hmmm.”

Carr.:

Ah yes. Bogota, Bogota. Got a sort of ring to it I suppose. Is this related to Boos-gota? (Bogota enters the gazebo) Ahhh… here he is now, fresh from a power nap. Hello David Bowie. Drat! I mean: Bogota.

Bogota:

Bogota is my name, while I’m here. Do you like it? Baker B. chose it for me. It’s one of his future collage series, hm-mm.

Carr.:

Yes, we know. But you are also S-y-d or S-I-D from the woods.

Bogota:

Um, yes, I am recalling that now, sir. Just now, though.

Snapshot3037_001

Carr.:

You can reveal yourself for who you are here. No need for a mask.

Bogota:

Oh, okay. (Bogota fades out the mask)

Carr.:

So what is your true business here in Collagesity? We are honored to host such a distinguished guest. We are collectively a bit awestruck, actually.

Bogota:

Yeah (sniff). I do that to people. Actually I’m just here to read one book in particular and then leave. It’s the book by — Blood Curdling isn’t it? I’ve read the early chapters and am up to the one about, well, me again. (He smiles at both Baker Blinker and Carr.)

Carr.:

Yes, I’m sorry Blood Curdling is not one of our better town writers. Pete has a nice set of fictional detective stories if you’d like to read those instead. (turns to Baker Blinker) Pete… isn’t that his name? Pete Good… Pete Best… something. (Baker Blinker just shrugs.)

Snapshot3037_006

Bogota:

Um, sure, thanks. I’ll take them with me.

Baker Blinker:

Where will you go next?

Bogota:

Out there. Mars. Saturn. Uranus. The universe beckons.

Carr:

Baker Blinker is wondering if the woods will still be haunted.

Bogota:

Well, that’s what I’m trying to determine. We’re trying to figure out what those, er, woods are about. This Collagesity depends on it for energy. A fire burning.

Carr.:

“We’re?”

Bogota:

Me and my mates. My mates and I. I’ve finally got to meet Syd now. We’re catching up. Planning the future. The skies the limit. (turning to Baker Blinker) Next life I might be Pink!

In truth…

… it might have been some version of this man named Dave, who has chosen to be called Bogota during his stint in Collagesity, haunting the Rubi Woods all this time, not Sid or Syd per se.

http://www.nme.com/news/pink-floyd/23574

Bowie has long declared himself a massive fan of Barrett-era Floyd. He showed just how much by singing their debut single ‘Arnold Layne’ at guitarist David Gilmour’s solo show at the London Royal Albert Hall last month. It was Bowie’s first live appearance in two years following a serious illness.

He said on hearing today’s news: “I can’t tell you how sad I feel. Syd was a major inspiration for me.

“The few times I saw him perform in London at UFO and the Marquee clubs during the 60s will forever be etched in my mind. He was so charismatic and such a startlingly original songwriter. Also, along with Anthony Newley, he was the first guy I’d heard to sing pop or rock with a British accent.

“His impact on my thinking was enormous. A major regret is that I never got to know him. A diamond indeed.”

Snapshot3034_001

Also in GNIRPS, he seems to defer to Barrett in a quite tangible way and that’s what got me thinking in this direction. Carrcassonnee suggested that I stop considering such “evidence” accidental and just go with it.

Bogota

“Peter SoSo” didn’t really need Baker Blinker to show him around Collagesity. He knew instinctively where the end would come. He went to see the appropriate collage in the Red Umbrella gallery. “I have only a very limited time,” he says to himself. “The hold here is not that strong.”

Baker Blinker caught up with him. “*There* you are, running off without me again.”

Snapshot3033_004

“I was just looking at The End. Like in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. The end of one, I mean. You are a very pretty girl. A pretty star of a girl. What planet are you from?” He still stared forward, away from her.

She took the complement in stride. “I’m from right here… in Collagesity. No need to look further.” Their voices were echoing off the walls a bit.

“Oh you must look further,” he responded. “Would you like to go away with me? I wish you could for a spell.”

Baker Blinker was curious. “What do I call you?”

Dave thought for a second. “You can call me… Bogota. Yes, Bogota will be fine.”

Snapshot3033_007

He turned toward her.

Choices

Snapshot3028_001

Is Baker Bloch back? There’s a distinct possibility he exited his entrapment in Collage World through the newest iteration of same seen here, which I’ve just inserted into the town museum next to its central Confluence Pool. I’m tempted to call the work “Death Stars”. The circumstances now are very similar to what happened at the beginning of the Sam Parr collage series about a year and a 1/2 ago. A Second Life scene I was focusing on instead transformed into a legitimate collage. *Is* this the beginning of a new collage series, perhaps the legendery Bogota or even Boos-gota (mashup of Boos collage series which it seems I *just* completed with the projected next series of Bogota)?

boos-gota01

And if Baker Bloch is back, does that mean Carrcassonnee can return to Collagesity from her exiled status over in Nautilus City? All strong possibilities. In fact we better say they’ve already happened and go from there. Baker Bloch approaches Carr. in *Collagesity*. Baker Blinker is already there.

Snapshot3028_003

Carr.:

Karoz was there [at the beginning of the Sam Parr series]. Maybe you should just ask him what to do.

Baker Blinker:

I don’t think I’m quite ready to be put in mothballs, Carrcassonnee.

Carr.:

Of course you’re not sweetie. All characters want to live forever. But, like the [newest] collage tells us, death happens, and we all move on sometime.

Baker Bloch:

How much is just the immediate impact of the death of David Bowie?

Carr.:

A lot I would suppose. He was a powerful figure. His archetype stretches out into many dimensions. He is not dead, just pausing. (pause)

Baker Bloch:

Maybe I should just go back into Collage World. For the main flow of the story here.

Carr.:

Hucka Doobie is going to show up now. He will just hover above us — no need to rez a seat.

Snapshot3029_002

Oh, it looks like he’s just going to stand between you. Is he your child?

Baker Blinker:

No. He is equal to us. He can *act* like our child, he can act like our parent, an uncle, a cousin. Whatever it takes. Right Hucka D.?

Carr.:

Hucka D. has trouble speaking in these chambers with others around.

Baker Bloch:

I would agree with Baker Blinker. But also add that Hucka D. *does* seem like a guiding spirit in the main.

Carr.:

You need his presence?

Baker Bloch:

Of course (!)

Carr.:

This is my decision. Baker Blinker, you still have issues unresolved that you must work through. Where is this Devil Dave? He must be gone, else I could not be here, back in Collagesity. Correct?

Baker Blinker:

I’m not sure.

Carr.:

And Karoz… if you go, then Karoz will probably leave us as well, don’t you think?

Baker Blinker:

Again…

Carr.:

My decision is that you both must stay now, until you resolve the issues. I also understand that Peter SoSo visited Collagesity through the collage. Wonderful! And he didn’t know who Karoz is or was. Isn’t that odd, since Karoz claims him as a great friend. How could that be?

Baker Bloch:

I have theorized that Karoz has been implanted with false memories of Crabwoo, stemming from Devil Dave. It was *DD*’s memories of Peter that Karoz remembers, not his own. This is similar to what happened in a Red Dwarf episode…

Carr.:

More Ancients you speak of here. And David Bowie himself is an Ancient. He appears in [“Carrcass+1”] not talking about Judy. His presence in *that synch* is coded into North Carolina.

Baker Bloch:

True enough. Queer.

Carr.:

There are too many queer things happening to call them queer any more. We can just call it a “bleedthrough.” Strong personalities begat bleedthroughs — black holes. Black Star black holes.

Baker Bloch:

And then there’s the whole [“Carrcass+2”] presence [of Bowie]. Superstrings are the prettiest star within.

Carr.:

He would like that. He *does* like that. Because he helped create it. No, the Bowie character will stick around as well. What’s his name?

Baker Blinker:

Well, we named him Peter SoSo to be honest with you.

Baker Bloch:

We were expecting him to turn out differently.

Carr.:

You thought he would be Peter Gabriel instead.

Bakers:

Yes.

—–

Carr.:

No, Peter SoSo will now live amongst you in Collagesity for awhile. Go about your business.

(Carrcassonee fades from vision. The burning lemon outside disappears as well.)

Shark

Snapshot710_004

The rain certainly brought out some interesting characters from the deep. Like Shark. Like Gentle Giant Fan. Like Little Reading Light, who usually sits just outside the bar dangling her cylindrical feet into Confluence Pool. But the pool was higher than the floor of the bar now, and still rising.

Shark:

You do not remember me, do you Furry Karl? You are not Furry Karl? Are you Furry Karl? Karl?

Furry Karl:

*Yes* Shark?

Shark:

Who are you? Do you remember?

Furry Karl:

Hey Lockfry, can you see this creature home from… whereever he comes from. Where *do* you come from Mr. Shark?

Shark:

Old Kentucky to you. Or Old Kent.

Lockfry:

Hey, thanks for the free cable subscription by the by. Great to meet you in person.

Old Kent:

You’re welcome Strangler.

Lockfry:

Cool. (looks to right) And what are you reading Little Light? “Winesap”, as usual? Haven’t you finished that book yet? Can I borrow it from you?

LCL:

Mmmmmm. Brrr. Whick. Yuppie. Yup-ie.

Furry Karl:

Little Climbing Light isn’t much of a talker, Lockfry. Best to leave her alone to read her book. I suppose she’s only inside to escape the rain. Never seen her sit here, although she sometimes comes in and buys a whiskey sour and takes it back outside to her pool. Hey, Little, they’re going to name that pool after you someday.

LCL:

Mrrr. Bub. Cliip.

Lockfry:

And how about the last person at the bar. Looks like he’s lights out for the night.

Furry Karl:

Rode in here on the shark. So I suppose they came from the same party. Hey Fanboy. Wake up. Bar’s closing in 10 minutes. Let’s see if you’re able to walk home on your own. Hey… (claps hands together) You in there? Come on. You can do it.

(Gentle Giant Fan raises his head from the bar and looks around.)

Snapshot703_002

GGF:

Oh, Kent. Glad you’re still here. Can you give me a lift home?

Old Kent:

Sure. As soon as Furry Karl says he remembers. Remember Karl? Furry?

Lockfry:

He’s talking about R110, Furry Karl. The secret society that tried to keep Linden Labs from taking over Your Second Lyfe. Shark’s from Arkansas, from Roostre’s county.

GGF:

Pittsburg.

Lockfry:

That totally incorrect, er, Gentle Giant Fan Boy.

Old Kent (answering):

Yell. As in YELLING (he yells the word). As in YELLOW mustard. Needing more. Corndog. Corndroid. Surely Karl remembers the *true* bar. The bar where I killed him.

Lockfry:

Furry Karl, actually I’ve made enough money from umbrella sales during this storm to buy your bar several times over. And I have already — paid your boss Norubi Turtle for it earlier.

Furry Karl:

Wha-what’s that mean??

Lockfry:

It means as of right now you’re exiled from your bar and Collagesity as a whole. Unless you can answer Old Kent’s question correctly. *Do* *you* *remember* *Shark*? Think; think as if your bar, your status as a citizen of this ragamuffin town depends on it. Because it does.

Old Kent:

And I’ll finish it off by biting your head off.

Furry Karl:

Hey hey hey. Half of me is gone again!

Snapshot3000_001

Lockfry:

That’s close enough, don’t you think Old Kent? Reveal the New Guy.

Opening Up

“I still can’t see you Baker Bloch.”

Snapshot3016_001

—–

“I heard Baker Bloch came by earlier and tried to speak to you but remained hidden. Can you give me a time frame for his return?”

Carr.:

No Baker Blinker, I can’t. Next question please. Do you want to ask about Otis?

BB:

Um, I don’t know. Do I?

Carr.:

No. Ask what you wish.

BB:

How about a report?

Carr.:

[That’s] fine.

BB:

Lockfry is still in town, despite making plans for his own exit. He lives in a travel trailer on the western end, not far from my house atall. I’m not sure I like this arrangement. I’m going to ask him to move it. Plus… I think I want him out, period.

Carr.:

That’s not what Karoz thinks. Karoz believes you are in love with him and that you are already a couple.

BB:

Not true! There’s a certain — attractiveness to him. As I said he reminds me of Karoz.

Carr.:

You better sit down and tell Karoz all this.

—–

Meanwhile, Baker Bloch, behind the scenes of course and working as writer/producer/director again, prepares Collagesity’s House of Truth for a potential visit by Karoz and Baker Blinker. Karoz will confess to her (probably in the town diner next door to it) that he now remembers Lockfry as Devil Dave from Crabwoo. They will go to the House of Truth to take in pictures of Karoz’s discovery of the Big E in the Blue Feather Sea, called, at the time of their snapping in 2009, a dramatic re-creation of an ancient event.

—–

Snapshot3011_004

Baker Blinker and Karoz arrive at the House of Truth to find that town graffiti artists have already vandalized an upstairs wall. “I tell you, Baker Blinker, we *have* to hold another town meeting soon or all will descend into chaos. People are still rumbling and grumbling about the Spongeberg speech. Thunder is on the horizon, soon followed by rain. The town will not forget his ‘sick’ remark.”

—–

“Uh oh,” says Baker Blinker, head pointed heavenward. “Where’s a dratted red umbrella when you need it!”

Snapshot3011_015

Soon enough they would find out.

Lockfry/Dave

Writer/director/producer Baker Bloch of the Collagesity Blog Series filming a test scene where newcomer Lockfry (played by Devil Dave of Crabwoo, etc.) is about to enter an enlarged version of the magical Blue Feather Cube bordering Central Stream, never to be heard from again in the town. The scene was later cut in favor of…

snapshot3010_008b

… Lockfry taking Karoz’s place in Castle Jack under the red lights (his favorite color, after all) and allowing the latter to return to his 2nd floor Bodega market apartment and take back stuff formerly stored in Furry Karl’s bar (such as pictures of his parents, his now empty parrot cage, and so on).

snapshot3011_003b

Baker Bloch envisions Lockfry working part time in the bar, gradually saving up his money so that he could buy this travel trailer and set it up on the extreme western edge of town above Confluence Pool. This way he could stay close to Baker Blinker — Bloch wants to keep the romantic triangle between Lockfry, Ms. Blinker, and Karoz strong in future installments of the series.

snapshot3011_009b

Eventually, Lockfry might build a house like the below one in the berg, complete with a galloping porch horse.

snapshot3010_011b

Bloch even tested out the idea of the red being constructing a whole castle where the Toxic Art Gallery presently sits. He could use a steampunk balloon ship to travel about, careful to avoid colliding with Collagesity’s network of sky tunnels.

snapshot3011_010b

But the most practical and believable of the end options, for now, seems to be the travel trailer. Baker Bloch revises the script to say it just mysteriously shows up one day, stocked to the hilt with Krings beer and sporting a tv that picks up all the local cable channels.

Pooh

Karoz grudgingly agreed to a private meeting over at the closed town diner. It was about 1:45 in the morning. Lockfry didn’t want Furry Karl or Baker Blinker or any of the others to overhear what they might speak about. Karoz didn’t care one way or the other.

Snapshot666_010b

“Listen, I’ve given you my apartment, my *woman of interest*”, started the moss being. “I have nothing left in this town. I sleep over under the red lights of the town museum with the flattie elephants and guerrillas.”

“Over under?” exclaims Lockfry, stretching his arms above his head. “Sounds like my kind of place, though. Have the guerrillas played mind games with you? I hope so. That would be cool.”

“So, what, you’re going to try to talk me out of leaving? Why would you do that?”

“Look, this is hard for me…” spoke Lockfry more honestly than before to Karoz. “We’ve met before. I know Peter SoSo.”

“That’s impossible.” The sound of squeaking and rattling was heard from the door. It was Winnie the Pooh and his honey cart, passing by on the rocky road outside (Cannon Street). Karoz noted the sound but couldn’t see the famous bear from his angle. Lockfry acted like the noise didn’t exist.

Snapshot668_002ba

Snapshot668_002ca

A longer silence ensued as Karoz tried to assimilate the revelation. “So you’ve been to Crabwoo?”

“I was enrolled at the college for 3 years, until they kicked me out for cutting the head off that dame and eating her lover. But, heck, we all do crazy things when we’re young and away from the home for the first time. Just kidding about that, by the way. You can take your shocked look off your grassy face.”

“The college stuff or the killings? Because I’m much more inclined to believe the latter.”

“I’m Peter’s friend Dave. We knew each other. Devil Dave, remember? I was pretty evil back then as well. And devilishly handsome of course.”

“Dave?” Karoz scrutinized Lockfry’s face closely for perhaps the first time. “Yeah. Yeah, I can see it. You *are* Dave. A considerably redder Dave, but you were quite pink in those days, so I can see the progression. Trace it back.”

“So you believe me.”

“I guess so.” “Dave,” Karoz repeats after a pause, and then looks at Lockfry again. “How?”

“Heck, everyone who was anyone back then went to Crabwoo to study. It’s not *that* odd.”

“Have you seen Peter recently?”

“Not since the [Linden] takeover. Most of us Ancients lost track of each other in the confusion. The days of Lemony Goodness were over. But, ahh, Crabwoo in its time was something, wasn’t it? Beat the [socks off] Chilbo. But of course there was the curse put on it. The Purse Curse.”

Karoz knew his Crabwoo history. He came to the Maebaelia continent city when it was sliding downward — considerably after the curse. But it was still something to behold. Two sims abuzz with excitement, all nuzzled up to the Blue Feather Sea. Like Lockfry said: everyone who wanted to expand their horizons went there. To study, to experience, to *know*. Know the higher truths. That’s where Karoz was introduced to the concept of TILE and tiling. Dave, if he recalled correctly, was 4 or 5 years older than him. So he could have seen the carcass sprawled out in the central mall, before they hauled it away. Peter talked about it as well, but he remembered the lingering smell more than anything. They couldn’t get it out of the air; it permeated *everything*.

The rattling/squeaking noise was heard again, as Pooh passed by from the opposite direction. Something else was in his honey cart, changing the timbre. He stopped in front of the diner door. His umbrella was both inside and outside the structure at once.

Snapshot668_001d

—–

Baker Bloch paused from speaking to his Past Father and turned around to see what the rumbling was about. The reality including Karoz and Lockfry had shifted over.

“Sounds like rain,” said Past Space Ghost.
