Collagesity Ruminations

Baker Bloch admires the jagged Collagesity skyline and thinks, “this could be it. This is where the buck stops.”

That night he heads over again to Carrcassonnee’s place for needed guidance after a fairly rough day. But Carr. herself has had a choppy spell recently. What’s going on? Interface is what’s going on. Collagesity is being affected by those that observe from the outside. So I think they need to talk — this most representative of representatives for myself, the chief artist of Collagesity, and then the chief deity of the town whose very existence has been threatened.

BBloch:

How are you holding up Carrcassonnee?

Carr.:

Baker Blinker took care of the problem. That’s all I’m going to say about it. I’m not going to rattle on so that you can put my inner hopes and fears on the blog for all these people to look at and dissect. I’m not like you.

BBloch:

Oh sure you are. You *are* me.

You’re going to have to get up soon when Baker Blinker arrives. That’s one of her special privileges now. She gets to sit in *that* seat. She’s such a beauty. She’s helped me so much recently. You are lucky to have her as a sidekick. You should just let her take over, eh? Just let her sit in your seat, acquire your friends, your memories. She is the male inside the female, a better balance. She has changed since entering Your Second Lyfe. My Second Lyfe. Look at you.

BBloch:

I know. I haven’t changed much. I did remove my mask about 6 years back. It was scaring the kids. But what of you? You don’t change.

Carr.:

I’m changing all the time, however. I am you. I am [ delete name]. I am Fitz. I am Lisa. I’m a lot of people you don’t know about yet.

BBloch:

What *did* happened between you and Wheeler?

(Baker Blinker enters)

Carr.:

Good. Now we can start in earnest. Get up Other Baker, for that is what you’ll always be now.

BBloch:

Alright, good enough.

Good *evening* Baker Blinker. My special friend. I thank you so much for just being here. For helping me. I haven’t had this much help since another special friend Dr. Horace P. Blood left the scene. He or she knew my peculiar ins and outs. I’ve kind of been lost without her all these months. I was at wits end to be frank. I *allowed* a vulnerability. Wheeler slipped in. But it’s good you two guys are still buds.

BBlinker:

We are. She’s under control, Carrcassonnee. She’s sorry it happened. She got carried away. She *is* powerful. But I’m strong too. I took care of the problem.

Carr.:

Just as I was telling Baker Bloch over there.

BBloch:

What *did* happen? I know you won the wrestling contest.

Carr.:

Listen close Baker Bloch. Listen to what real change does to a person. Increases their mettle. Makes them tough.

BBlinker (to BBloch):

It wasn’t much. Well, it *was* scary. I almost lost. I turned it around in the end. I thought of Karoz, and how he cares for me so much. That pulled me through to the end. The marriage is still on.

Carr.:

Oh it has to be. I’m marrying you! Right here. Right where these chairs are now. ‘Cept Karoz will be in Baker Bloch’s place. He’s secondary too. He doesn’t change neither.

BBlinker:

He’s trying.

Carr.:

He’s so transparent he’s basically grass. His ass is grass, as they say. Barney Rubles?

BBlinker:

Wheeler also wants to talk to you Carrcassonnee.

Carr.:

Don’t let that *bitch* back in here.

BBlinker:

Now now, it wasn’t that bad.

Carr.:

Baker Blinker, with all due respect, it *was* that bad.

BBlinker:

Now I think you’re overreacting Carrcassonnee Cazzcark.

Carr.:

My full name as well. You must be convinced of this. Well… go on.

BBlinker:

Wheeler was doing what Wheeler was suppose to do. She *can* take over the town. Destroy it even. If we didn’t have a central core, a central fire. And it can’t be just you, just me, just Karoz, just Baker Bloch, just Hucka Doobie. It has to be all of us, working together. Working as one.

Carr.:

The old one for all thing. I’m buying.

BBlinker (finishing):

*And*, it has to be Wheeler too. You and she must make amends. We’ll leave you alone. Get up Other Baker (she laughs and waves Baker Bloch up).

Carr.:

*No*, you can’t take advantage of my relative immobility. You *know* I can’t… oh… hello Wheeler.

Wheeler:

Hello Carrcassonnee.

Collagesity Remakes

Some more changes over in Jorondip, but I’ll have to get to those later. I wonder if Karoz and Baker Blinker would be interested in this kind of quickie wedding? Probably not.

But the main focus of this particular post will be recent changes to Collagesity. First off, it seems my probable reality where I own land in both BoB and Minoa next month has closed up, with one of the 2 targeted parcels in BoB’s Gormthoog sim having been sold just yesterday. I’m locked in at Minoa for a while, perhaps the winter, perhaps longer. Quite a bit longer. Come November, I will have been in Minoa for *2 years*, by far the longest stay I’ve had for a major installation in My Second Lyfe. First stage Pietmond, for example, only lasted about 6 or 6 1/2 months. That was my first full fledge virtual village. Minoa’s Collagesity may be my last, in terms of just Second Life alone.

Well… to the changes. My apologies to those who might still be creating films in Collagesity (*several* films have been or are being made of the town recently! — get to that also in another post), but I’ve essentially swapped out the Toxic Art gallery for the 32×32 version of Gallery Jack. I’ve centered it right on the Collagesity Tower (or Town Tower, I believe I might have called it; hafta check), the one with the name of the town written across the top. There are advantages and drawbacks to this swapping, and hopefully the former outweighs the latter. Both contain essentially the same set of collages, or the bulk of the Art 10×10, still my cornerstone creation in that category. It took me 5 years.

The big box of a gallery sits squarely in the middle of the below photos.

The swapping has freed up this passage on the north side of Gallery Jack. The building to the left below is also new: the Sink Lair, whose story is here LINK. I’m not sure how long it will stay there, however.

A new shop has been built directly underneath Gallery Jack. Nothing in it yet, though. Could it turn into some kind of history museum? Souvenir shop?

Then I had to create some new stairs to connect the east and west parts of town, the former totally dominated by galleries now with the exception of Karoz’s still evolving Norum College. He needs to start working on that again.

And then yet another new building has been rezzed on the far east part of town, next to Art Oluja’s nifty cardboard house centered art installation. This would be the SoSo Gallery containing the 20 collages of 2007’s Oblong series, perhaps the most consistent of that type within the Art 10×10. I felt the need to do this since Oblong is not included in Gallery Jack, unlike with the Toxic Art gallery. That’s a major difference between the two.

And then the front of Gallery Jack itself. The whole 32 meter long front wall is phantom; the back one as well. Just walk right in.

Center of Gallery Jack. I first concocted this alternate home for (the bulk of) the Art 10×10 back in 2010 on a plot I owned at the time in Orion’s Vale, at the bottom of one of two identifiable sinks of the Corsica continent. A quite sacred space. And we now have the return of the Eternally Bickering Newton and Jasper statues to Collagesity. Neat-o.

One more fairly significant change: the return of the Small Gothic Castle to the Friends of the Rubi Woods parcel, replacing the Victorian House formerly there.

I’ve also added some more vegetation to Collagesity. Hopefully, again, it’s been an aesthetic upgrade from before.

Family We Are.

Baker Bloch couldn’t find any Asprind up at the Bodega marketplace. He and Karoz Blogger, who was playing Clerk this night, even looked in his upstairs apartment above the market. Then they sat down in the two chairs there and started talking about Karoz’s woes with Baker Blinker. Baker Bloch lost track of time a bit before Karoz mentioned Wheeler, making him jump out of his seat.

“Man, I almost forgot about Carrcassonnee. Just give me some regular aspirin. I have to get back. Wheeler was acting… strange tonight. Stranger.”

“Baker Blinker seems to like her well enough. She can crush an olive with her mind.”

“Hold on to that thought, Karoz, and we’ll get back to it.”

Baker Bloch rushed back to the gazebo, but everyone was gone now. He heard sounds coming from what he thought might be Collagesity Heights. He returned to the Bodega marketplace and used the teleporter beside the door to reach it. Karoz went with him.

They found Carrcassonnee in a bad place: upside down, turned around, and very dull and red-violet now, the opposite of her usual, healthy chartreuse glowiness. A 12 Oz Mouse clip was playing in a loop where Shark offers Fitz the Mouse some Asprind.

“Yeah, I suppose that’s the only thing that will really cure her,” Baker Bloch said upon viewing the spectacle. They both sat down and watched as well.

Carr:

What happened to Wilson? Did you kill him?

Wheeler (w/ sarcasm):

Yes I killed him. Get up Baker. That’s my seat from now on. You sit over here. (sarcastically imitating Baker Bloch): Oooh, I’ll bring in Wilson. I’ll show Carrcassonnee. (end of imitation) But it’s always *this* seat. Where he can’t see me well.

Carr.:

I can see you.

Wheeler:

But not well.

Carr. (admitting):

No.

Wheeler:

How about now?

Who *are* you?

BBloch:

Yeah Wheeler. Tell us about yourself. Here, I’ll get up. I get the hint. You’re taking over, etc. etc.

Wheeler:

I sure am.

(Baker stands and offers his chair to Wheeler)

In a moment bud. I’ll stand too. You stand and I’ll stand. You sit and I’ll sit. That’s the rules from now on. Right Carrcassonnee?

I don’t know. My brain hurts. Need Asprind. Run up to the marketplace Wilson and get me some Asprind.

Wheeler:

Cure for rabies? (she laughs)

BBloch:

I’ll go get them. Be back in a flash. Are you okay here alone with Carrcassonnee Wheeler?

Wheeler:

Why wouldn’t I be? We’re *the same*.

Carr.:

We *ARE*?

BBloch:

I’m not Wilson. Anyway, I think you want Wheeler. Wheeler is in Wilson. The Wilson-Wheeler dichotomy. Who came first? What came second? Etc.

Carr. (thoughtful):

You’re not Wilson.

BBloch:

No. I came to ask about the collages. There’s a rumor around town that Spider will be let loose within them again.

Carr.:

Not Wilson?

BBloch:

No again. This happened once before LINK. Remember? (turning to Spider) Remember Spider?

Carr.:

Spider will talk one day but not today. Maybe tomorrow.

BBloch:

Are the rumors true?

Carr.:

Who told you this? Wilson?

BBloch:

Not everything revolves around Wilson, Carrcassonnee. *We’re* here. Baker Blinker, Karoz, Hucka Doobie, myself. We’re permanent. The permanent family members.

Carr.:

Do me a favor Wilson. Make a list of permanent and impermanent residents of this town. My town. I can’t move around well enough to do so. Census, perhaps. Yes, a census. Can you do that? Go to each house. Knock on each door of each house. Make a count. Ask pertinent questions. Report back to me. Go.

BBloch:

Alright I’ll do that later but there’s not many residences in town, actually. A lot of galleries, a number of so called businesses supported by the galleries…

Carr.:

You do this for me, I’ll send Spider into the collages. What specifics do you need from my end for the entrance?

BBloch:

I don’t know. What are your ideas about it? Do you have ideas?

Carr. (roaring):

OF COURSE.

BBloch:

O-KAY. (an obviously irritated Baker Bloch looks around for his blown off hat)

Carr.:

I will not argue with you again.

BBloch:

I-I don’t remember arguing before.

Carr.:

This has happened too often. Bring out Wheeler.

Carr.:

BBloch:

Hold on hold on. I’m going to do a trick. Hold on to your hat Carrcassonnee! I’m going to revolve you around. Let’s see how this goes. Ready… go.

Carr.:

I didn’t feel much.

BBloch (after seeing it wouldn’t work):

No. The radius is too big. I was going to attempt to merge with Wilson.

Carr.:

That would be catastrophic! NEVER try that again. EVER.

BBloch:

Jesus Christ Carrcassonnee.

Jordondip Changes

Ch-ch-changes (sorry) at the epicenter of the Jorondip sim once more. My new friend Quito has given me a present! I wonder if he noticed the pictorial similarity between Quantum Cat and Starman David Bowie seen on the sides of his namesake arcade game? He probably did. They’re even about the same size.

Carr. and Baker Bloch Wilson talked for quite some time. Carr. explained that Baker was going through a different development than before. Karoz and Baker Blinker changed all that. Collagesity became permanent. Yes, I guess that’s maybe true, perhaps not in the sense that My Second Lyfe will always be around but that the virtual town will always be here. In some form… beyond just a collection of galleries. And that’s what they had to talk about: TILE. Carrcassonnee next brought in Karoz and Baker Blinker.

You look simply radiant tonight Other Baker. What do you think Karoz?

Karoz:

Absolutely!

Carr.:

And what about you? Do you feel… radiant? You don’t look radiant.

BBlinker:

He’s working on it. *We’re* working on it.

Carr.:

But it’s absolutely very good that you are working on TILE now Karoz, at least. For that is the important point now. I to E to T to L. Never forget that. But your training won’t allow it. How’s Blue Feather Douglas doing over there in his pyramid at Crabwoo by the by?

Karoz:

Oh I haven’t spoken to him in many years.

Carr.:

Perhaps he’s dead.

Karoz:

No, I would have heard about it. We all would.

Carr.:

And Devil Dave. He’s left the scene, but he could return. He could renew the rivalry for Baker Blinker’s hand. You better think about that.

Karoz:

I have.

Carr.:

Well, I think we need to work on those changes.

So Carr. chastised Karoz a bit for not putting much effort into changing his appearance from standard default grass texture. “Look at John Lockfry 02 over there,” states Carr. “Handsome devil. And now he’s dating Wheeler, luckey girl.” Karoz was thinking something different. Baker Blinker then admits she’s a bit jealous of Wheeler. “But not like Dr. Mulholland before her,” responds Carr. “You had quite the rivalry. But not for Karoz.” “No,” she admits. “Just…” “Just what?” Carr. queries. “She stole my purse!” Baker exclaims. “No,” replies Carr. “*There’s* your purse. You see, you didn’t lose it at all. Dr. Mulholland has — *had* — a different purse, two different purses in fact. Wheeler also has two now. But there’s your one white one, spinning around like a rotisserie chicken. You better figure that out.” “Curse purse,” Karoz then says.

BoB’s Crescent House is officially outta here, replaced with this similarly sized rectangular structure. The involved parcel has been bought. So much for Collagesity in BoB, it seems.

Baker was hopping around land parcels for sale through Lama Estates (as he sometimes does) and logs out right after encountering this blue cube in Varano on the Nautilus continent which appears very much like the one in Lynch’s Mulholland Drive movie. To reinforce its presence, when I log him back in the next time, the cube looms before Baker as he manifests. This *must* mean something, he rationalizes.

It’s actually more of a box than a cube, but Baker couldn’t originally tell this from his position below it.

I aid him by digging up online pics of the Mulholland Drive cube. The similarity is obvious. What was found inside? More BoB stuff, but the parcel was banned.

As Baker is looking at it again for the purposes of writing this text, it appears the doubling of the Mulholland Dr. cube’s keyhole is completely accidental, involving a projection of the back of a slightly off-angle tv screen within. I think this fact may be odder than if someone did the effect on purpose. Just look at the similarity! SIGN. You can check the thing out here if you wish (look east).

Morning Meeting

Baker Bloch sips his morning beer and contemplates further changes for Collagesity. The focus *must* be on that Friends of the Rubi Woods parcel, he believes, the 512 that will remain when all else goes away. That is the foundation, he rationalizes.

But right now, all that’s on it is a still almost empty Home o’ Fibs partnered with a quite premature Christmas tree. Yes, gift giving has come early this year, Baker understands. Wilson-Wheeler.

He heads over to Carrcassonne for a prearranged meeting. Baker Blinker is already there.

Carr.:

Other Baker! Come join us. Baker Blinker and I were talking about changes. Ch-ch-ch-changes. David Bowie will return. What was his pseudonym again?

BBloch:

Bogota. Like the projected collage series.

Carr.:

Yes, I remember now. Bodega.

BBloch:

No. *Bogota*. Like the capital of, um, Ecuador? No, sorry, Bolivia Columbia. [The smaller] Ecuador and its Quito are next door.

Carr.:

That is precisely what I want to talk about with you guys tonight. I hear you are watching “12 Oz Mouse” again up in the real world. The oh so cool real world. Should that be capitalized?

BBlinker:

Well, we’ve had our time to chat so I might leave you and Baker to talk about that.

Carr.:

No no, Baker Blinker. I want to speak with both of you. This involves both of you. “12 Oz Mouse” is very important. And not just because I was the *star* of the show, mind you. (Carr. laughs here)

BBloch (smiling):

You were very good in it.

Carr.:

Good? I was spectacular. My finest role. Perhaps by a good margin. Whadda ya say we go up to the theatre and watch some episodes. Oh, I guess that would spoil it for the user, however, the one that types these things we speak of and orchestrates what we do. Are you up there baker b.?

(All look heavenward. No answer.)

BBlinker:

You say that Karoz is also involved in that.

Carr.:

He is my double in the show. As I’m sure you’re sick of hearing me say, I play Fitz the Mouse, the star. But in *certain* ways, Karoz is also Fitz. And then in other ways, *both* you guys are Fitz. And Spider over here is Skillet, who is a squirrel and not a dog, as Rhoda ponders, or a rabbit, as Roostre guesses. Both are wrong.

(The Bakers exchange glances with each other, like, “here we go again”.)

BBloch (finally sitting down):

Okay, Carrcassonnee. We’ll bite. What’s going on with “12 Oz Mouse”?

My collages in other people’s spaces

First off, I have a new and artsy neighbor in Collagesity: Art Oluja. I halfway suspect this may be another incarnation of my old friend Veyot, who was a neighbor and actually integral part of Collagesity/VWX Town in 2 other locations in past years. But whatever: welcome! I’m very excited to see what develops on the 624 sq meter parcel in the coming days and months. And she’s added Collagesity as one of her picks.:)

Newer friend Pearl Grey then sent me an inworld notecard giving locations and brief descriptions to some places virtual renditions of my collages are being displayed in Second Life. Many thanks again Pearl! A very nice gesture indeed.

The first (Boos 10: “The Martian”) is found on a back wall at Sojourner’s Ground on the Maebaleia continent. It’s owned by Klaus Bereznyak, who’s been around since 2007. An old virtual soul, then; here’s his homepage.

The final collage of the 2007 Oblong series (“Lymeyen”) is then displayed in a parcel under construction called A Little Piece of Art owned by, well, it’s owned by my new neighbor Art (!). The plot thickens…

Next up is a somewhat larger parcel called Art and Weird Words, with a quite creative treehouse display of Rose Hill 06: it’s sideways! But I think it works in this environment. I forget to have Baker Bloch sit in front of it for the picture. Oh well.

The owner here is — yes, Art Oluja again. Next door is Saul’s Place Cafe, with a display of Saul Goodie’s very interesting abstract art pieces. Whether chance or not, this is also quite near Soujourner’s Grounds. Just down Route 8B. Is this the start of some kind of art city along this route? Only a couple parcels of abandoned land separate the two. And I should also add this: “Art and Weird Words” is found in a sim called *Wyrd*. Wyrd is a type of portmanteau of “weird” and “word”. Interesting!

And then as I kept poking around, I found Rose Hill 07, the next one up in the series, displayed in the other treehouse on the Art and Weird Words parcel (or should that be Art and Wierd Words?). Hmmm… interesting again. Actually, as I’m remembering now, Pearl mentions in her notecard that both treehouses contain collages. I still recall creating both of these works late into the night back in 2005. They’re based on some similar motifs. Kinda scary stuff — darker than most of my works.

The last link in Pearl’s notecard took me to her own residence in Rosieri, not far atall from Collagesity, being only about 500 meters away. I had a old friend named Cocoanut Koala who use to own a considerable chunk of that sim. I mention some of her intricate and detail oriented work in this 2014 blog post.

I was very pleased to find a piece by Earl Dinkin within. Now I’m not friends with Earl, but he has numerous galleries all over the mainland continents I’ve run into, by accident or not, again and again. A bit more of his very cryptic story here. He’s another old virtual soul.
