“Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”…
… is completed!
If you’re counting at home, this is the 7th Collagesity related graphic novel of the series, and the 5th finished in just the past year. You can catch up with all the action through the “Virtual” header of Sunklands site:
Top seven links (novel I, novel II, etc.) will take you to the appropriate work.
I *might* be taking a little break in fictional writing now and focus on the outdoors and “reality” again, but we’ll see. So much fun doing these!
Like all but one of the Collagesity novels beyond the first two, “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” is divided into 6 basically equal parts, this time composed of around 16 posts apiece. I like to think it makes internal sense, but admitted this one may be the most abstract of all, having, let’s see, at least 14 locations around Second Lyfe used for settings, as well as employing a myriad of characters again.
I could produce many pages of analysis. 🙂
Thanks to my loyal readers for all the support!

“Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” ends at the exact same location as “Collagesity 2016-2017 Winter”, which is in the exact center of the Purden sim in Snowlands, Sansara.
Part 3 of “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” starts with a post called “HHI Again”, partial reference to the first post of Part 3 of “Collagesity 2017 Middle” called “HHI.” I only uncovered this resonance after already composing “HHI Again,” though, and was pondering over a title for the thing.
“Private”, the 4th post of part 4 of “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”, was created exactly one year after “Scissors?”, the 5th post of Part 2 of “Collagesity 2016-2017 Winter” (1/15/18 to 1/15/17). They also share several of the same objects or props (unique to those posts as I recall), and both end with “fires.” Like with the “HHI”/”HHI Again” parallel, I only noticed this after the creation of “private”.
In “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”, characters first speak a foreign language (German; several posts), although one small exchange between Wheeler Wilson and Baker Bloch in “Collagesity 2016 Later” (“B-4”) is in the pretend language of Perch.
Almost exactly half of the 7th Collagesity novel (“Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”; 47 posts of a total of 97) is at least partially set on the 7th created mainland continent: Gaeta V.
2 used locations of Gaeta V, Clemscott and Comfrey, also have about the same number of posts dedicated to them in the novel (15 and 14 respectively), and are linked in other ways. I see them as a balance for each other.
Almost all other posts (20) concerning Gaeta V in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” are set in a place I call Capitol City, which is a fictional burg located near the center of the continent.
“Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” contains 25 posts located in eponymous Collagesity, second least in the series to “Collagesity 2017 Middle” and its paltry 7.
In the 1st post of “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” (“Return”), Tronesisia returns to Middletown piloting a small pink airplane down its main street. In Part 6 of “Collagesity 2016-2017 Winter” (“Huskers”), she returns to Collagesity driving a small pink car down its main street.
Probably the most common drink referenced in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” is a bucket of blood, served with or without nails.
One independent collage was created during the composition of “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”: “SpicA”. It may also be the first collage of a new series called Hunt, but we’ll see.
There are many “Twin Peaks” references scattered throughout “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter.” The names of a number of minor characters (see, for example: “Shirtless in Comfrey”) are “inversions” of those connected with the show, including Jeffrie Phillips (Phillip Jeffries in “Twin Peaks”, played by David Bowie).
Similarly, Philip Strevor, a key character in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”, is an inversion of Trevor Philips, one of 3 lead characters of “Grand Theft Auto V”. They also share a similar appearance.
There are a number of parallels between the consecutive posts “Revealing” and “can’t wait” of Part 2 of “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” and the post ending the first half of “Collagesity 2015-2016 Winter” (“Spire”). This is another of those “after the fact” discoveries.
The Spookmobile of “Collagesity 2016-2017 Winter” returns at the beginning of Part 5 of the most recent Collagesity novel (“Well, we have a giant *beaver*. How’s that?”), and connected with baker b’s audiovisual synchronicity “Pumpkintwisters” again. The Spookmobile was also seen in the first post of part 5 of “Collagesity 2016-2017 Winter” (“Martins”).
Like all the other Collagesity novels, “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” has its share of Beatles references. See, for instance, “silver hammer” of Part 04.
The “Grand Theft Auto 5” storyline starts with character Trevor Philips robbing a bank in North Yankton as an adult. In “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter,” derivative and, name-wise, inverted character Philip Strevor is claimed to have robbed a bank in South Yankton as a child. Yankton is also the location of the prison Bad Coop is briefly incarcerated in toward the beginning of “Twin Peaks: The Return”.
There are a considerable number of references to the comedy group Firesign Theatre in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” (“plans”, etc.). In 1970, this group was dubbed by the Library of Congress as “The Beatles of Comedy.”
“12 Oz Mouse” references are littered throughout “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” and other novels in the series: perpetually stoned Peanut Cop in “up and down”, for example; his pal Golden Joe too. A good obscure reference example would be the queer tune that Pitch Darkly miraculously finds that he can play on a piano in Spider Cave from the final post of part 4 (“breakthrough 02”), derived from this scene in the “12 Oz Mouse” episode called “Booger Haze”.
And I think that’s enough for tonight! More “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” trivia could be coming up.
C1718W fun facts 02
Hispanic-Irish clown Renaldo O’Donnell has now been killed at least 3 times in various Collagesity novels, specifically the locations of VHC City, Olde Lapara Towne, and now Capitol City (“to make it all work”).
The sacrificial alter he perishes on this time around has the same demonic entity pictured on it that existed within the infamous Purple Tower of VHC City, as seen in one of my 2013 blog posts. This seems to tie into the fact that O’Donnell was deemed an oo’d in the most recent novel. I’ll leave it at that.
Old Man Allen Martin, not seen since “Collagesity 2017 Middle” where he also died in the VHC City underground like O’Donnell, makes a cameo in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” as a ghost (“Clemscott”).
3 “bluebirds” appear in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”: an actual bluebird named Bluebell in “Brilliant Twin” (6th post of Part 2), the coffin of a pirate named Bluebird accented by a topping blue rose in “resting place 02” (9th post of Part 4), and then the Bluebird Cuddle Van of “illusions” (6th post of Part 6). Thank goodness “resting place 02” isn’t the 6th post of its part as well, else: 666. Then again, a 9 is but a 6 rotated on its axis. 😮
Another drink mentioned several times in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” is Brewmeister’s Quarterly, a strong German beer.
“Come to Mimosa” can be seen outside Duncan Avocado’s window in “Collagewold”. Earlier, Mimosa is mentioned as actor Tom Casey’s home course (“Mimosa”). The author (me!) grew up next to a golf course called Mimosa Hills, where my mother actually made a hole-in-one on the par 3 17th, just like Tom’s character Casey One Hole repeatedly does.
“Jackie, Ona,” and, “the strangely cool yet confusing Sis brothers,” mentioned in “Beamers” refers to Jackie Onassis, originally Jackie Kennedy, wife of JFK.
An unresolved aspect of “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” is the nature of Tonya Two Egg’s arch nemesis JERRY. But I happen to know that this might be the same as Harry. More later on that perhaps…
A number of names and locations in “Collagesity2017-2018 Winter” are taken from real life US towns, such as Two Egg (Florida), Gene Autry (Oklahoma), Pine Ridge (Arkansas), and Opp (Alabama).
The General Tom Thumb story relayed by Broken Heart in “The End 01” is absolutely true.
Duncan Avocado’s mentioned companion Thimble, one of Sugar’s Berries (prostitutes), also ties in here, as the Thimble Islands of Connecticut are supposedly named for the local thimbleberries and have nothing to do with sewing thimbles.
Leona Lei and the Hilltoppers from the same post is another one of those after-the-fact “accidental” references to real life hillbilly musicians Nancy Lee and the Hilltoppers, known for their song “In a Little Red Barn”.
Anton of Anson is based on a real story. He could be there as I write this. 🙂
“Purple Gang of Black Lake District” in “Well, we have a giant *beaver*. How’s that?” is partially based upon the infamous Purple Gang that terrorized Michigan in the early 1900s, and are claimed to have visited Black Lake in the upper part of the state. This Purple Gang was also known as the Sugar House Gang, and sugar house is a term featured in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” and also “Collagesity 2017 Later”preceding it. The true relationship of Gaston’s two sugar houses remains unknown as of this writing.
In “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter,” we never learn the identity of the mystery figure walking behind the picket fence of “play with me”, but I can reveal to you here that it is Planters’ Mr. Peanut.
The poodle is perhaps the central image of Frank Zappa’s lyrical mythos, and Anorexia/Annie’s hatred of poodles mentioned in “gift” seems to stem from her former status as a Zappa groupie.
Historic population place Ferndale of Casey County, Kentucky had a strange variant name of Poodle Doo, still the name of a road in the area. Annie articulates her hatred of poodles to a man named Casey in that post.
We never learn much about Philip Strevor’s red book he always seems to carry around with him except that it predicts the future.
Philip’s sidekick Heidi Hunt Ives is seen with a blue book in “directions”, which changes covers three time during the course of the post.
Jacob I.’s attempts to reach Stonethwaite in the Lake District of England through Falmouth 36 (“Falmouth Visit Floor 3”) seems to remain unfulfilled in the story, adding it to his other “failures” he lists out in “The End 02”.
Hucka Doobie’s etheral home called The White Palace is cited in several other Collagesity novels before “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”, beginning with the original novel of the series (“Collagesity 2015-2016 Winter”). We never actually see this palace in the series, though.
Regarding some of Gaeta V’s mentioned sims in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”: Capitol City’s Babablacksheep, first mentioned in “HHI Again”, is really the sim of Babayagashut… Clemscott is actually the sim Danascott (Clemscott is another US map name). Comfrey is an actual name of a Gaeta V sim, although most of the action claimed to take place there in the novel is really from an estate island with a similar name.
Popular Collagesity character Karoz Blogger doesn’t appear in “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter”, making only the second time in the series this has happened (along with “Collagesity 2017 Middle”).
And that’s it for another installment of “Collagesity 2017-2018 Winter” fun facts! Hope you enjoyed it.
Luckily Rey Wisa always kept a spare cone in his pocket.
As soon as he stepped foot upon the crossroad early last year, Buurb knew this was actually Collagesity set in the future.
It was 20 meters down the road where his more psychic wife first realized this, but that turned out to only be a strong reflection. Merely a T-junction.
Because this was the ‘X’ that led home. Mabel would be waiting with a pot of something or ‘nother. Perhaps bean stew tonight. He better make his way through the trash again.
“My blues cousin Opp is missing, Bill. I, of course, blame the reds and yellows.”
“Tell me about it,” affirms Wheeler who is now Bill — The Bill. “I’ve been shooting reds and yellows all day.”
“But if you’ll excuse me, I must now get back to sewing the elephant.”
Grassy Noll wondered what that was a euphemism for, but Bill meant it literally.
roses are blue
Furry Karl woke up in the Bluebird Cuddle Van, more 3d and less hairy, true, but still alive and well (yea!). He shortly made his way into a conveniently placed local strip club. No surprise there given the change.
“Well,” coffee drinking Pervimus Rex opined, checking him over. “You *smell* fresh. That’s a good sign.”
“Yes,” agreed his smoking and reading cousin Wally. “Looks like he’s here to stay a little while longer than we expected.”
Afterwards, Baker Bloch treats Baker Blinker to a fresh meal of catfish at Perch to celebrate. “Here’s to akking!” he exclaims, raising his glass of French rosé and clinking it with Baker Blinker’s own. The strong German beer Brewmeister’s Quarterly had been banned from the restaurant.
“Well *we’re* a fine pair of lost souls, Robot Derak Jones.”
“Be quiet, Campbell. I’m trying to figure out what went wrong.”
“Opp, please,” the blue boy demanded again.
“Opp, Campbell, Opie, Thelma Lou, whatever.”
He read well into the night while the Mmmmmm dozed outside in the warm New Island clime. Peace and quiet at last.
But no mention of Pervimus and the resurrection yet.
Bill (Wheeler) came back to Collagesity to retrieve some tweezers and got chills while standing in front of the town library and staring at this view down Old Cannon Road toward the Rubi Woods.
Time to head home again, Buurb thinks.
But instead Buurb finds himself heading left, toward the freebies library at the end of Lost Heaven Road. What to buy today? he considers. Maybe something for Mabel this time.
Yes, more bean stew for Mabel. He loves that stuff. And — Buurb couldn’t resist — a Green Lantern mini-avatar for himself, hehe. He can hear his wife now: “You’re *such* a Sheldon.”
Bill (Wheeler again) couldn’t figure it out. Why would this mysterious chess club pal Ellen insist on going first and then make such a weak opening move? She counters with her own weird kind of opening: Pawn to Queen 4. Because at this rate she was going to win in 13 moves or less. Anyway, she’d check back tomorrow and see if Ellen had stopped by to play again. Poor girl; maybe not the brightest of us all.
But Bill was wrong about that.
“I’ve tried so many times to paint the Moth Temple and attached pier village, Catvas. Tried and failed. It’s just so beautiful as is.” Bill gets up and moves toward the winged feline.
“But try I must again.” She then peers down at the piers. “Ooo… looks like Ellen has made another move at the chessboard. Forgot *this*!”
“Okay,” the disappointed Catvas purred after an awkward pause. She should be use to the feeling by now. “Maybe tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow it is, my friend”
One by one, the Clemscott holiday deities Santa God, Halloween Jack, and Melvin exited their decorated, semi-decorated, and undecorated castles in the sky and made their way into the Nascera related Wizard Retreat of the same plane, never to be seen or heard from again.
Eventually, a man formed in their place, the great 3-n-1. Axis was his name, a person of many faces. One of those faces was called JERRY.
He came out of the Wizard Retreat into a brave new world: Nascera. The date: December 22, 2009.
Oops! Given him several more hours and he’s over there for sure. “Sorry about that!” he apologies to the reader or readers. “Just warming up, you know.”
There he is in person, the hiding Axis thinks excitedly. Famed SL explorer Baker Bloch, about to pass into Elderglen and exit Fern. This is my chance!
Then in the Elderglen Infohub, Baker Bloch was again surprised, this time by the clear indication that famed SL explorer Magellan Linden had already visited the newly risen Nascera continent.
On the opposite wall, a frog with an interesting golden orb placed in front of it.
Baker tries his hand at playing a lute sitting on a stage in the corner of the Infohub’s main room. To his complete surprise, he subsequently strums a beautiful, complex tune of short duration. Ahh, but it must just be the magic of the place, and not any latent talent showing through.
A man walks into the infohub. Baker’s complex music grinds to a halt.
Baker watches him pass straight through the infohub, not glancing toward him, and exiting through the back door.
… but there was no one on the back porch. From its northwest corner Baker then spies the broken teleporting machine — one day too early.
Axis’ plan had worked! The black king strikes again.
Campbell O’Pine enters Pipewold a boy…
… but comes out a man.
What is this place?
He *might* make it back, Robot Derak Jones thinks from the other side of the “X” while enjoying the alone time. We’ll see. Had to be done at any rate, he justifies.
RDJ then turns his thoughts to when Baker Blinker might be arriving on his side of New Island.
It was a most remarkable coincidence (again). I knew Baker Blinker, er, *Furry Karl* had to get from Horizons-Pluto to New Island by boat, probably with a woman companion in tow, but couldn’t figure out how they’d exit the Horizons subcontinent’s 4th and southernmost region, the “hookless” one (explain that in a little bit), and into Zindra proper. Do they turn east or west at the bottom? I figured east, but there was nothing in that direction.
Then by accident I stumbled upon a portal tonight that solved the tricky problem — or Wheeler did. She decide that Lou would be the best character to play this particular role, and also rezzed Norris beside her as a sounding board for ideas.
“What do we do now?” asked the bleached face Norris to his sitting companion.
“We simply wait here at the canal. It’s already set up. Baker Blinker will never make it out of the Horizons sub-continent by boat. We’ll make sure of that.”
“Cool, I suppose.”
She smiles while watching the dance of rippled water beneath her pale, dangling feet. No choice to make now.
“I made it happen,” Norris declares from the rocker to the user baker b. through Baker Bloch. “You must get Wheeler back to sewing the elephant. When she finishes we can talk more.”
Baker pauses to consider this. “You mean the Corsica book.”
“Of course… i-ca. Sorry.”
“Good to see you have a sense of humor. I was starting to worry Harry. JERRY, Harry.”
“Norris here, if you will.” He then looks over at the back of Baker Bloch’s hatted head. “Make sure you aren’t looking at me. Are you looking at me?”
“No.” Baker kept staring toward the corner of the room.
Although he kept looking at this same corner, seemingly, his position in the room shifted. Furniture appeared; a table. A warm breeze blew through the now open windows beside him. Norris followed Baker Bloch through the portal but couldn’t properly sit in the rocking chair now… no room for him here.
Another took his place.
“You don’t mind if I SMOKE, do you?!” Baker turned.
Of course, Robot Derak Jones knew of Eraserhead Man’s place just behind his — The Pencil or just Pencil, as he use to call him in the good ol’ days. But he didn’t realize it was an *actual* rabbit hole until today. The Pencil told him about it. Pencil told him a lot. They hadn’t spoken in what seemed like ages. What was their argument about? RDJ vaguely recalls something about a Corsican woman they both fancied who worked up at Bumpy’s Ice Cream Village. And such a short distance between their homes — all those months and now years of meaningful friendship squandered, he realized. He’ll make it up to him as best he can; he knew what was going on now. EM came down on his John Deere riding mower. They would talk until the stars appeared in the sky.
“Just like with JEOGEOT and MAEBALEIA,” Eraserhead Man continued. Robot Derak Jones nodded, thinking back on the original rabbit hole connecting those two distant mainland continents. “47 even… there’s a Room 47 in ‘INLAND EMPIRE.'”
“Why don’t you turn your hearing aid on, Pencil,” RDJ gently suggested. “This is pretty top secret information we’re passing between us after all.”
“Right you are!”
hooked and hookless
“An artist, huh?” Karl says in his gruff voice. “Not a prostitute.”
“That’s my life goal,” affirms Annie, who will pick up about any man available in the stripper club. Actor/writer/inventor Tom Casey was just one in a long line of suitors.
Norris JERRY Harry too. To be fair to Karl, she has a particular thing for thick, strong arms that will completely envelop her during an embrace. She turns to face her present lover’s large, bald head.
“Because my guess is that you’d make one hell of a whore.”
She smacks his cheek, but not hard. Because Annie agrees with Karl about that. She *is* a slut, and good at it. If it wasn’t for that New Island book by that Moth fellow, it still could represent a natural endpoint. But she saw the drawings, read the detailed text. Artist Point, a colony of realistic and abstract creators alike. She wanted to venture into the latter but so far had stuck to the former. And now she had a strong desire to paint *Karl*. In the nude, of course. That’s another add-it-to-the-list one, because she’d already done Casey, done Harry. 15 paintings accomplished just this past year (!). The ability was growing. And she read about a nudist beach at something called The Hook where she could hang out and pick up men. Check out the goods beforehand. Not in a pervy way, but in an *artistic* way. Okay, 1/2 and 1/2, she admits to herself while thinking about their large, thick arms, etc.
“Sisters just up and left you, huh?” stated Karl, getting serious for a change. He’d never had a family of his own. Just those crazy, fast food neighbors of his who were the focus of the… his reality. But since he was 3d again, perhaps he’d eventually have to go back to the old house, the old life. His coat of fur had disappeared upon, er, awakening outside in the Bluebird Cuddle Van. And how did he get here in the first place? That remains a mystery to him. Must have been some hell of a party.
“Yup,” answers Annie. “But I have only one *real* sister,” she clarified. “Tonya Two Egg; went with Harry to wherever this Mimosa is. She’s hell bent on finding JERRY, you know.”
“*Yes* Karl. I brought up JERRY two times before. You must have been staring at my legs.” She skillfully raises her skirt an inch or two while shifting her position in his arms. She’d learned that trick a long time ago.
“Oh,” utters Karl. He vaguely recalled something about that now. And, yeah, he’d been staring at her legs a lot. Here’s another one with a thing for thin, like Tom Casey. Speaking of which, they’d better get down to what he was here for. “Okay, babydoll. The night is growing, um, later. There won’t be any more stars in the sky than are in your eyes right now.” He’d learned that line a long time ago.
First thing in the morning, they rezzed Annie’s small fishing boat at the nearby community center and headed south, intending to go through Horizons’ 4th and only hookless region (ironically enough) to reach the continent of Zindra. Karl had nothing to leave behind; he’d only been in Horizons-Pluto for a week. And Annie had already sold her land next to Mt. Tom, so hell bent was she upon this New Island.
Both sisters fixated on the same type of place. And there were more connections.
“New Island by boat, huh? We’ll see about that.”
“I have one more thing to do here, Karl. You can just wait in the boat.”
