The Diagonal — More Studies 01

Image found when googling “The Diagonal” using image option. Compare to Vaher’s “Don’t speak” again.

Let’s start moving down The Diagonal now beginning at the northeast corner to take pictures of the specific triple coordinate points for each sim. First up: Scotopteryx. About the only distinguishable item I can find to speak of here is that this occurs on Linden owned land (Route 5)…

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Scotopteryx/31/31/31

Snapshot1169_007

… as does the next triple point in my present home sim of Philudoria, this time next to a Linden owned rr.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Philudoria/60/60/60

Snapshot1169_009

My land in Philudoria, with Westside in the foreground and a bunch of new land for sale behind it and to the left. However, because The Diagonal passes through Westside, I’m not tempted to buy the land currently to create a “Northside” for VWX Town to replace Westside. Westside is certainly still engaging my attention, as is The Diagonal as a whole with the new set of discovered triple coordinate numbers or now so-called master numbers of each involved sim.

Snapshot1169_004

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Lanestris/97/97/97

The Lanestris triple coordinates of 97/97/97 is the first, starting at the northeast corner once more, to be placed on non-Linden land. Instead it is owned by the Virtual Chelsea Hotel group. As such, the 3rd coordinate of the triplet — elevation — is subject to change at the whim of this group within the plus 4 meter/minus 4 meter range of terrain editing allowed in the sim (default terraforming for mainland sims as a whole). One would have to revert the land to original conditions (i.e., Linden default terrain) in order to determine the true elevation here. But the point is that the triple coordinate could change in the sim, unlike Scotopteryx and Philudoria before it — given that the Lindens don’t re-terraform their own land in each case.

The now infamous Lanestris triple coordinate is a twin to Rubi’s identical 97/97/97, which we’ll briefly review in part 02 of 02 of this post series. Unlike the Lanestris triplet, the Rubi triplet *does* exist on Linden land, and is therefore likely “fixed” on this particular spot, just as the case with Scotopteryx/31/31/31 and Philudoria/60/60/60. These are one of two exactly twinned triple coordinates of The Diagonal as a whole as it currently exists. We’ll get to the second set of twins in part 02 of 02 once more.(9/20/13: the story of these twinned coordinate points has changed a bit with the introduction of Hucka D.’s Bank of Despair in Tiretta; see here).

Snapshot1067_001

Currently you cannot directly teleport into what appears to be the triple coordinate point of Hooktip, the sim next on The Diagonal. Instead you’ll have to walk over to it through your chosen avatar. The triplet is located on Hooktip Yards and VRC Grand Central Station property. To remind: the Hooktip train station itself is almost centered upon The Diagonal. See here for an interesting post by my VWX Town neighbor Veyot about a trip starting at this very station and ending in Deirli, which also just happens to be a Diagonal sim.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Hooktip/135/135/135

Snapshot1169_011

After Hooktip, The Diagonal begins to descend toward the Heterocera continent’s central, large lagoon, losing elevation in the process. Hooktip 135/135/135 in fact appears to be the highest point on The Diagonal as a whole. Only one sim down, our apparent triple point, Burnet/32/32/32, has lost over 100 meters in elevation.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Burnet/32/32/32

At this spot, Baker Bloch finds himself in the middle of the “Washburne (Washtown)” property, defining itself as a space port, a fact borne out by the presence of several star ships and hangers in the immediate vicinity. The octagonally shaped Joe’s Garage is to his northeast. A synchromystic Frank Zappa reference?

Snapshot1169_012

Hmmm… maybe the spaceport’s actual name now is Shadowrim, and the land description has not been updated to reflect this change. Interesting flag.

Snapshot1169_013

Next up is the sim Cosmet, and the triple point in this case lies on land called Cosmet Corner. Curiously, the triple coordinate is positioned on the opposite side of the 784 sq. meter parcel from the sim’s corner here; this may also be meaningful in the overall Diagonal story.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cosmet/23/23/23

Snapshot1169_016

We end part 01 of this 2 part series in Hirtaria, the next sim down on The Diagonal with a triple coordinate point of 15/15/15. This is the second lowest triplet on The Diagonal.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Hirtaria/15/15/15

Snapshot1163_006

Hirtaria is a Linden owned water sim making up a section of the continent’s central lagoon system, as is Biston to follow.

Southside, Westside

I’ve noticed Enola Vaher’s “Finely Torn Id” Gallery in VHC Town is frequently advertised on Sasun Steinbeck art kiosks in the last year or two, specifically a signature art work within her gallery depicting a female figure, her mouth sewn shut with a string or thread she also holds in both extended hands. It reminds me of a long piece of dental floss, positioned in this manner. Knowing that Vaher’s gallery lies next to and is directly identifiable with The Diagonal, I found myself wondering if this string/thread, this line — held diagonally across the picture after all — could be psychically associated with this much larger virtual line extending across the Heterocera continent, another microcosm of that macrocosm as we have now in the Church of the Diagonal.

Snapshot1157_001

As Baker Bloch is checking now by visiting the “Finely Torn Id” gallery in person, the work is called “Don’t speak”. I’m inserting a detail of the picture below he just took, or I just took through him. 🙂 Notice the stitching through the mouth takes the form of a row of diagonal diamonds (5 in all), just like the sims of The Diagonal would make the same (14 in that case). I may return to this thought after further study.*

Snapshot121_001

As you can also see from the first picture above, my kiosk in Southside’s Power Tower Gowlery was depicting this very picture the night I decided to check out the sewing in it more closely. While there, Baker also took — or, once again, me through Baker — a picture of the long row of second story “windows” shared between the Power Tower Gowlery and neighboring Gallery Jack, more indication of the interdependence of the two. One could say the two speak to each other, and that this is a sort of symbolic “mouth” in itself (!)

Snapshot1157_003

Baker sits on the bridge across the stream just outside the Power Tower, pondering the meaning of its source at the northeast corner of Gallery Jack now. The stream seems to be another way to connect my two Southside galleries. This unnamed stream, in fact, is about the only thing in Southside now *besides* the galleries, since they occupy so much space there.

* Appropriate, perhaps, that the picture next to “Don’t speak” in Finely Torn Id is called “Food for Thought”, and these 2 art works appear in the back center of the gallery, as we can tell by peering into the front door and judge by the skull pictured on the floor. “Food for Thought” also contains a skull, and the man in the picture (partner to the woman beside him?) is eating “thoughts” out of it.

What is it?

Snapshot1153_002

Snapshot1153_004

Carrcassonne:

It’s a pod. For exploring space. And time. Me.

bb:

Because you are the all, I’m guessing.

Carrcassonne:

Yes.

Hucka D.:

It got here — predicted that you’ll call me in or ring me up — because it’s an escape pod. Wyn Galbraith Cutout was forgotten at the town meeting. For some reason she didn’t count. She was, let’s see, the 13th or 14th.

bb (after a pause):

I have just been counting and it looks like 15 or 16, with Wyn, if I may be so formal with her, the 17th. A lot of characters!

Hucka D.:

Now the forgotten enters the pod sideways. Is she heading to a different space and time? Can the pod actually launch?

bb:

I’m going to dig up the post I was just reading earlier today about when this pod first appeared in Old Pietmond. Interesting. Hold on:

Pietmond Changes, 02

Here’s another:

Podple

I’m reminded of several things, then. First, the pod originally sat in the Temple of TILE at the very spot which Carrcassonne occupies now, the immobile form of her, heehee.

Hucka D.:

Haha.

Carrcassonne:

We are the same, the all.

bb:

Well, you’re certainly close to the same color. And about the same size. Yet you didn’t show up until about a year later in the Temple of TILE. That’s another point — since its erection, the temple hasn’t changed much down through the years now. It’s been sort of a stability point. Remember when we were going to devote quite a lot of time to the discussion of VWX Town buildings?

Hucka D.:

The Temple of TILE should be in a sinkhole. It’s not now. But what are you going to do? Carrcassonne, the ruler of the temple, is ultimately displaced. Can she return?

bb:

Probably not, Hucka D. Sunklands is dead, seemingly. No return to Sikkima[ 14th sinkhole of SL] is perhaps possible. The other sinkholes — on Corsica and Maebaeleia — probably not as well.

Hucka D. (reinforcing):

The temple needs to be in a sink. Sink in, and all.

bb (after counting):

10 holes in the pod still. The mouth, where Ms. Galbriath passes through sideways, is the Sun, we’ve speculated before. And the hole at the top is Pluto, the destination point perhaps. This is a launching pod for an Ancient. Ancient Rising.

Hucka D.:

Wyn G. is at the mouth. Are you in or out, and so forth. Is she coming or going? Clues.

—–

Carrcassonne:

This is Sharon.

—–

I wanted to speculate a bit more on the newest object in VWX Town. It’s kind of like it belongs there and doesn’t belong there at the same time, which makes me think it *might* be a rocketship, a pod spaceship, or perhaps a memorial to a spaceship. It’s tied into whoever Wyn Galbraith — the forgotten — is. (pause) I wonder if it has to do with Casey the Alien, another new object in the town, and with somewhat similar colors. Wyn, I believe, is going to get in that ship and travel to distant places, maybe Uranus and Neptune, possibly Pluto. But she is arriving at the same time, which makes me think the ship exists in a time rift, where coming and going are the same. A breakdown of normal reality, which is probably pretty common in malleable and low gravity Second Lyfe. (pause) That the object exists in Westside also seems important. I’m also reminded of the concept of Piepodt, which is a sort of melding of words Pietmond and Teepot.

Right after the pod appeared in Old Pietmond, the underground, Pluto, started opening up. We found an opening into the underground, the underworld perhaps.

Great pic. This is the L and the P together. Pluto symbol. Casey The Alien exists in a newly dug underground for VWX Town. Casey The Alien was similarly in Old Pietmond’s Underground.

“What happens…

A cube/sphere half the diameter of a second will enter the second to make a whole. Lock. Turn, then. It’s on.

bb:

What happens then?

Hucka D.:

Each become stronger. Pietmond stronger.

This must be the concept of Piepodt.

I wonder about the nearby pool of water backed by the obelisk, another Old Pietmond related tableau.

I’d forgotten that Carrcassonne was originally called Piepodt.

VWX Town Reconfigurations

Baker Bloch’s dash to the center of the Heterocera continent kind of fizzled out, with the central of central lagoons skirted but not directly visited. The below photo finds Baker running on the western side of the larger lagoon which the smaller lagoon is nested within, enjoying the complicated underwater scenery. Where will he head next?

Snapshot1141_008

Back in VWX Town, more changes a going on. I decided that the Table House near the center of the town could go, since its original purpose has instead been fulfilled by The Table on the second level of the Church of The Diagonal in Westside. The deletion of this fairly significant, almost 100 prim structure created a domino effect, with the results pictured below. First the deletion of the Table House allowed me to rez both the SoSo East Gallery and Bodega Supermarket in its spot. Both of these structures were last seen on my holdings in New Pietmond, Sikkima, if memory serves.

Snapshot1145_001

As a result of the spacing between the two, a long avenue was opened up running through most of Central to Westside. Nice extension.

Snapshot1145_003

With SoSo East rezzed, I realized it was possible to delete the Toxic Art Gallery in the northeast of town and relocate all the collages within it to both SoSo East (Oblong series) and my formerly established Gallery Jack (Rose Hill, Hidalgo, Yale, Wheeler, Newton, Jasper series), the latter which I then manifested in Southside directly west of the Power Tower Gowlery.

Snapshot1145_004

VWX Town’s lone stream, now issueing from the eastern edge of Gallery Jack.

Snapshot1145_005

Entrance into Gallery Jack from the Power Tower Gowlery. So nifty I could directly couple these two personal collage filled galleries.

Snapshot1145_007

Gallery Jack’s atrium, with a map of Jasper County, Illinois surrounded by statues Newton and Jasper, still bickering and still opposing each other, I assume.

Snapshot1145_009

Cool view of the Power Tower Gowlery from the hole in the top of Gallery Jack.

Snapshot1145_010

Snapshot1145_013

In order to establish Gallery Jack in Southside, I had to move the Temple of TILE already in place there. The logical choice was the northeast corner of town where Toxic Art Gallery had just been derezzed. The temple seemed to slot in perfectly; Carrcassonne appears happy.

Snapshot1145_015

Bodega Supermarket, another marvelous Arcadia Asylum freebie build.

Snapshot1145_016

Yet another major change was the upgrading of C. Derek Jones’ Westside cottage to a bonafide house. He’s quite happy with the results as well. Everyone seems pleased with the new changes. Win win.

Snapshot1145_019

VWX Town, for what it is, is being perfected.

Thoughts….

“He knows that Casey the Alien sleeps in the tomb that is the womb. Carrcassonne isn’t it?”

Carrcassonne:

We must hide the true intent. I see all.

bb:

Hi. Interrupting anything? Tomb?

Hucka D.:

Casey the Alien is rainbowology reborn… or renewed. Your choice.

bb:

What happens if I give up that domain?

Hucka D.:

Nothing.

Carrcassonne:

You must walk my labyrinth. Move my labyrinth[ to the northeast corner of town] and then walk. That is rainbowology. Your line, Bee.

Hucka D.:

That is rainbowology.

Carrcassonne:

Pay attention. [(did Carrcassonne *smile*?)]

bb:

What about sinkology… and Sunklands?

Hucka D.:

Another valid object[ive].

bb:

Obviously this has something to do with Jamie pulling the plug on his [or her] own Dark Side of the Rainbow site, really the last one or at least the only current one in existence, subtracting my own. And my own isn’t complete.

Hucka D.:

Complete.

bb:

The whole blog here[ Frank and Herman Einstein blog] started as a reaction to Jamie’s nonacceptance, seemingly, of the concept of rainbowology.

Hucka D.:

He accepted the concept. However, it was different from yours.

—–

bb:

Sorry fellows. Computer wouldn’t restart and had to repair itself. Took a couple of minutes.

Carrcassonne:

I’m not a fellow. Lili Boulanger. Galina Ustvolskaya.

bb:

Thanks Carrcassonne.

Hucka D.:

The computer restart is not an error. We are unprepared to answer your tough but important questions tonight, baker b. We have become inept for some reason unknown. Right Carrcassonne?

Carrcassonne:

Wrong plug. Female plug. Plug in female. The.

bb:

So… is he coming back to life or not?

Carrcassone:

Create the [new] tower. Rainbow tower.

Exploring Heterocera 01

I really appreciate some of the areas near VWX Town. Like the super significant VHC Town obviously, and also Simple Wunderlich’s almost sim sized zoo featured in other posts here. Although not as large as those 2, add at least the ground part of the Lunacast Moonbase Officer’s property in Dimidiata a bit below them on that local appreciation list. I love larger tracts of undulating terrain decorated by a good heaping of linden plants such as this. I think back fondly to Salazar Jack’s vast Kahruvel forest, and also the smaller Kerchal Forest and Heterocera’s own Rubi Forest. This is not nearly as big as even the Rubi forest, but I take what I can get from mainland at this point.

Snapshot1139_008

Another beauty spot just west of there, across Route 3.5 in Serpentata now. It’s a rather significant, artificial hill with the stream pictured below tumbling down its east side. A hollow log home is set up next to the rocks on the top, and a campfire is nearby. Baker Bloch, in rechecking the site in real time, has found a base inside the hill, apparently owned by pagans. He does not wish to disturb them further.

Snapshot1139_009

Moving on… the next route west is Route 3, and beyond that the central, high ridge of Heterocera, arching across its northern expanse. Luckily, ol’ running Baker is able to cross the ridge at a lower part here, before it rises into the towering mountains of the north.

Snapshot1139_011

Nevertheless, the ground gets very steep on the other side, with SL 6 (“High Mountain Road”) just below. I’ve heard one old SL friend call this her favorite Linden route.

Snapshot1139_017

Snapshot1139_020

Exploring Heterocera 02

The continent’s central lagoon comes into view past the road below Baker Bloch here.

Snapshot1139_025

Similar view from a vantage point in what’s called Rustport, a collection of buildings spaced one on top of the other beside the railroad. Not as rusty as it sounds.

Snapshot1139_026

So many artists reside on the continent. Splendid! This may be just a private home in Tanietatum — nearing the sea again — and I apologize to the owner 23rdDjin Negulesco if so for the photo.

Snapshot1139_027

Cornfield with blackbirds outside a neighboring structure. As Baker Bloch is checking now, this seems to be part of the Rustport complex.

Snapshot1139_030

Linden protected channel surrounded by small, jagged cliffs. This appears to be in Tischeriidae, the sim immediately south of Tanietatum and southwest of Perizoma.

Snapshot1139_032

Just wrong (but still cool).

Snapshot1139_033

Texture change in the sea bed crossing from Tischeriidae into Thyatira.

Snapshot1139_037

Sea floor running, above-water camera angle…

Snapshot1139_038

… and below-water camera angle. You can deduce from this that the water is quite shallow here, as is the case for about all the continent’s interior lagoons. Depth here: only about 5 meters. Perhaps I’ll make a more comprehensive study of Heterocera water depths in the future.

Snapshot1139_039

Baker checks out spots of more interesting floor textures at the base of a mound.

Snapshot1139_040

Heterocera actually contains 2 atolls, one fitted inside the other. Below Baker stands on the edge of the interior atoll, with the 2nd, smaller lagoon not far over the ridge in front of him. He is about the visit the center of centers.
